Hellwell - Deadly Nightshade, off Beyond the Boundaries of Sin

This is how you make stuff that is just as morbid and putrid as old school death metal without actually making OSDM.

Aye, it's a great album, and I like it more than the new Manilla Road. Now, Mysterium is pretty good, don't get me wrong, but I don't find it to be nearly as engulfing nor as esoteric as its Hellwell counterpart. Sure, I still need to listen to Mysterium more, but so far, it's not awesome.

Warlord - Lucifer's Hammer

I've been listening to these guys a lot lately, and I recommend them to anyone interested in heavy/power/classic metal. Plus, Bill Tsamis is a nice guy, and possibly a genius.

Don't know if this will be your kind of thing SLK, but hey, it's definitely worth a try. Just don't shit on me if you happen to hate it :-P

Crimson Glory - Queen of the Masquerade, off Crimson Glory

This and Heart of Steel tend to fight for the spot as my favorite tune from this album, though admittedly there're no such things as "mediocre" or even "just good" songs to be found here.

Yeah, it's a side project of his. It's actually rather similar to his stuff with MR, but it's much darker, not to mention that it's permeated with horror themes. Sort of a Bizarro version of Manilla Road, if you will :-P

Summoning - Across The Streaming Tide

Been watching too much The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross so now looking at the Oath Bound album cover I keep hearing things like "Let's put a happy little cloud right here." and "We'll paint this tree a friend. Everybody needs a friend." GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!

it's what Ghost wishes they would sound like. :p I'm listening to Eaters of the Dead and that's the correct way to incorporate organ music. I def dig, and I know my wife will love it. She's really the huge Manilla Road fan she's who actually pushed to get their material.

Great to know that, SLK! I wouldn't really use that Ghost comparison though, as they actually go for more of a Blue Öyster Cult sound. But yeah, they're infinitely mediocre compared to Hellwell. Also, your wife digs Manilla Road? Shit, now that's what I call being lucky! :-D

I dunno if I'd describe Hellwell as morbid - they seem too sophisticated for that. But then again I'm a stickler with words. They are great though. Probably my favorite post-2000 MR release after Spiral Castle and Voyager.

Yeah, they're sophisticated, but I don't know Emp..... Whenever I listen to 'em, I get the feeling that I'm walking into a necropolis (pun not intended), with weird, horrible things lurking in the shadows. Maybe "sinister" is a more appropiate word to describe their sound.....

oh totally not saying this sounds like Ghost... I'm saying this is how I wish Ghost actually sounded like. I've been saying ghost sounds like BoC since the first single was released.

My wife has great taste in tons of metal. it's one of the many reasons I married her. I told her it was to steal her collection.

Lost in necrooooooooopooooooollllliiiiiiiiiisssss!

But yeah, I get you. I can see that. I usually just associate morbidity with more dirty, aggressive kinda music. ;)

Carnage - Torn Apart

Great fucking song, but I have to say that I do prefer the re-recorded version, for the simple fact of that solo. It sounds much better on the other version, as do all the other leads. That aside the riff work is still savage.

^ That was powerful and moving. The visual image I get on listening to that track is one of a man who is running non-stop. Through the city lanes and bi-lanes and into the forests...and finally into the ocean.

The song I had paused to listen to the above track:

Olho De Gato - Carnivore
Crusty dutch band!

I don't know the band, but their band name is horrible. :-P

Soilwork - The Thrill.

This song came on after Suffocation - Infecting the Crypts..... quite the style change their, I'm pretty sure it almost triggered a withdrawal.

Fantastic song. So full of despair, bitterness, and sadness. So..... Charged with emotion.

Nightly Gale plays a highly original yet hard to swallow mutant doom style. Vocalist Waldemar Sagan, at times, screams his lungs out in pure Marduk style! The music has an ice-cold. Its GREAT;)

Black Sabbath - Letters from Earth, off Dehumanizer

"Come on, it's another game
But you gotta play on
Cause they say it's just pretend
Ask them why..... They say you'll NEVER, NEEEEEEEEVER DIEEEEEEEEE!"
COME ON! The game is called THE END"
