Post subject:  Funeral Grind?

I've heard of multiple genres with the funeral and brutal styles mixed into it (brutal death, funeral doom, funeral black, brutal black) but do you think it's ever possible to make funeral grindcore?

Just wondering what peoples views on this would be because i personally hate grindcore (exempt of caninus (which is more of a fun thing to listen to because they have two dogs for singers)). But i have heard slow paced grindcore (Gut, Cunt Caviar, some others) where it almost sound likes Jungle Rot. I know grindcore and funeral metal are opposites, but i feel like it is possible to make a fusion of it maybe.

Ataraxie mixes funeral doom with some fast paced death metal, so i dont know, i just want to hear other peoples views on this idea that just popped into my head

aren't they moreso death/doom influenced by grindcore though?
thats like saying if novembers doom played the same music they play now but they were influenced by grindcore when they wrote it

It's as close as you're gonna get. Besides, Disembowelment played funeral doom parts back when people just considered that really slow Doom/Death.

This. diSEMBOWELMENT contrasts slow, funeralish paced death/doom with faster, blasting grind sections, such as in their song "The Spirit in the Tall Hills."

Also to a lesser extent, Evoken. They're not quite funeral doom slow, and they're faster sections are more death than grind, but thought they might be worth a mention.

Septic Tomb may go under what you're thinking of. I think the person in it posts on MA, I don't remember who it is though.

theyre listed as doom/death/goregrind, i havent heard their material myself, but i just feel, there is so much that is possible now. there is funeral folk, brutal folk, funeral black, brutal black. and a few years ago it was hard to even make something that was totally different from other music, and now people are finding new ways to reinvent music, its exciting

Not to dissuade you in your search, but isn't funeral grind sort of paradoxical? I mean, grind is a genre that's characterized by extremely fast, chaotic like structure, whereas funeral doom (or any genre for that matter) is noted for its extremely slow and sluggish behavior?

The only band I can think of has been mentioned multiple times, Disembowelment. I'd be curious to know if anything else turned up.

If I remember right, there don't seem to be any really strong funeral elements in Septic Tomb.

I think Septic tomb is just bedroom Goregrind with slower parts, but nothing like the brutal death/funeral doom/sludge advertised.

Try Skullhog, they play some down tempo goregrind (with faster stuff too, obviously), pretty sweet. Otherwise, mixing the brutality and speed of grindcore with the very slow tempi and atmosphere of Funeral Doom sounds difficult.
Ah, Ataraxie mixes some very slow funeral doom (while staying rather "brutal" in some aspects) with very fast brutal death metal parts. They also have the characteristic of playing some slow riffs under fast blast beats, which is pretty cool.

Haha, I've had his Sewearth EP on my computer for months now, and I still haven't gotten around to listening to it yet. I might break it out this weekend though, as I am somewhat curious.

Programmed drums really ruined it for me, not to say it had much going otherwise.

Not quite funeral, but Uaral combines folk with slow, sometimes deathish doom.

Indeed it is if you enjoy shoving roses down your urethra!

Seriously, that's one of the worst ideas I've heard as of late.

At the OP, the closest you'll find is Disembowelment.

Never pegged Albert Fish as a folk nor funeral doom fan.

Lord Of Putrefaction (pre-Electric Wizard) had a gnarly grind feel to them.

I've always thought it strange that Grindcore has come to be associated with speed, when Mick Harris originally used the term to refer to the slow crushing riffs of Swans etc. The term fits this style better than the fast stuff. "Grind" evokes images of tectonic plates grinding together, or glaciers grinding rock.

The term became a couple of steps removed from its original meaning; i.e. Napalm used it to describe their slower parts, and since everyone else associated Napalm more with faster stuff, that's what the term came to define.

A lot of sludge (Noothgrush, Cruevo, Goatsblood, Tusks of Blood, etc.) is like that. Really slow, crunchy music that sounds like it's grinding against your psyche.

I was sort of trying to go for a funeral/goregrind thing with Septic Tomb but it ended up being more death/grind with gore vocals and some droning sludge parts. Maybe applicable to what you're looking for but probably not the precise sound you want.

Fast forward your funeral doom. Seems like a simple enough solution.
