Hey guys,

I just wanted to see if this is a normal thing, my friend bought me tix to go see Machine Head here next Saturday and I couldn't find any support bands with them so I messaged the page and got this response:

I've never seen them before and they aren't exactly the first band I'd choose to see live but is this a normal thing for them?

3 hours of 99% of any band seems like a bit of a chore.

They made a decision not to bring support bands on tour a while back, also they're no longer doing festivals as far as I'm aware. 2,5-3 hour gigs is par for the course for MH these days.

Machine Head does not want to subject you to a better band

Machine Head has no concept of diminishing returns I guess. Like even if you're a giant Machine Head fan, 3 hours of the same shit is way too long. I don't think I would enjoy my favorite live bands for that long. I rather have a well-paced and rounded 90 to 120 min show than those 3 to 5 hour long monstrosities some bands like to perform.

I mean tbh I wouldn't mind if Deep Purple just played Machine Head in full five times

Apparently they play 26 songs, including three encores. I can barely imagine any band doing that, especially not this one. A Robbb Flynnn poetry slam in the middle of it would probably even be welcome, just to change up the dynamics.

I’ve heard that this is considered cruel and unusual punishment in some countries.

I can't think of a single band I'd want to watch for three hours.

With Machine Head, I'm sure three minutes is plenty.
