I must be out of the loop, because this is completely out of the blue for me. Didn't even know they were active, let alone had an album coming. Not sure what to think of it yet, haven't had much time to process it, but so far it feels like a winner.

I wasn't expecting it either, and the new Marduk album is just eight days away. Seems the guy has been busy.

And I'm still hoping for Katy Perry to do another Christian album.

This is seriously amazing.

edit: "Cockatrice" is a monster of a track, top tier stuff. Goddamn this album rules.

Yeah, it is really good. Cockatrice, Within the Without and Hosanna really stood out right away, but as a whole the album feels better than the previous ones to me. It's mostly fast, ugly and weird, with some really cool unexpected parts in a lot of the riffs. I remember putting Maranatha into my CD player many times only to listen to the title track, which still fucking rules, and then switching CDs. I think I have to revisit the old ones, but might as well just listen to the new one for now.

Been listening to this album a few times now and I keep coming back and wanting to spin it one more time. A good sign! The vocals are, of course, amazing. In that department it seems Mortuus can do no wrong. I find many memorable passages within the songs and some interesting ideas. I liked this one straight away but it also feels like a grower. That's a really good thing :-)

I was wondering what the new material was going to be like. As I'm am on a music trip, far away from Black Metal, I think I managed to get myself in a good position to make an assessment. The first play was great, it's on Spotify for now until my CD arrives. This album sits in their catalogue very well.

Anyone read that interview Arioch did for Bardo Methodology? Super interesting read, I also believe it's his first interview in at least a good 10 years. Comments a lot on Hekatomb and a future electronic project of his, Domjord. Really recommend it:

I love how he says Christianity isn't relevant anymore but it's the only topic discussed.

The album was cool though, way better than anything Marduk has recorded imho.
