Untamed Land is a new solo project from Ohio and he has just released the debut album 'Between the Land'. The difference with this epic black metal release is the swords, shields and mountains have been replaced with the guns and dusty settings of the Wild West and works well together making it a rather unique concept in this particular genre. I see the music described as 'spaghetti western' epic black metal so there you go. If you like epic black check it out here and enjoy.

Saw your fb post and was intrigued, if for no other reason than the moronic lettering on the cover. Will report back when I get the chance to listen!

Summoning-lite clone with a cheap trumpet midi and a couple of "Ghost Riders in the Sky" gallop beats... It's no worse than the average stuff you hear on "Atmospheric Black Metal" youtube channel.

I don't know what this guy was thinking exactly. The musicianship is actually pretty competent and I'll bet he could have written a good black metal album without all the circus instruments and western melodies. There are some better than average moments sprinkled throughout this, but I can't tell whether I really like it or not.

Was gonna make a thread about this band, but I guess this one will serve.

I really like this. I'm a sucker for Ennio Morricone soundtracks and I find the influence works really well with the Summoning-like style. This is better than Caladan Brood and... well...

...Don't hate me, but I think this might even be better than the newest Summoning. :oh shit:

Spoiler: show
I still like With Doom We Come and I suspect it will be a grower like the last two, but yeah, even those are still not quite on the level of Minas Morgul and the other classics I'm afraid...

I knew you'd be in this thread as soon as I found it. Never change lol

Wow. By now I had completely dropped the idea of metal and western-inspired music getting along (yeah, I think Dezperadoz sucks big time and Welcome to carcass country didn’t do a lot for me, probably because it's pretty much straight up country and the metal influence is minimal), this is a great example of it and while I wish some instruments sounded a little more natural and less like midi I see this as a step in the right direction. Freaking awesome. Reminded me of Lucasart’s Outlaws for some reason, I guess I’ll be playing it again these days. Thanks for sharing.

This kind of musical pairing is very simple, don't know why others attempt it very rarely. You're basically dealing with a few extra instruments and scales to give it that Morricone flavor.

It's pretty nice but to go off with what John was saying, the cheap midi irritates me a fair bit. It's not impossibly hard to make them sound a bit less fake and dry, run it through a free amp plugin to roughen it up, add a tiny bit of reverb (using another free plugin) to give it a bit more of a "this was actually recorded" vibe. That said I'm currently in the desert and I'm fairly enjoying this, it does the whole vast and cinematic morricone thing pretty well.

It is better than the new Summoning simply due to the lack of punchable elves going "and let none disturb my solitude!"

Well I gotta say, I don't usually listen to this 'epic' style of black metal, but this is pretty damn good. I think I'll be keeping tabs on this one. Thanks.

For those who are interested, a new remastered version of the album (with new artwork too) is available digitally and on CD now. I actually like the new version quite a bit. It's got a lot more bombast, I think. The original is great too though. Plus, I saw that Henri Sorvali was involved in the mastering, and Henri Sorvali = always good. I prefer the original cover though. The new one is pretty, but the original captured the spaghetti western feel better. Particularly the font.

I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks of the new sound.

I thought this was pretty enjoyable, probably about even with the newest Summoning album. I've been enamored with all the western-themed black metal that's been coming out lately. Seems like it's been a pretty good year for it.

I like the remastered version quite a lot. I was afraid they would push the guitars back (just like they do in the vast majority of black metal remasters) in favor of keys but they actually gave them more prominence. I'm not sure about the new cover, I liked the original one better, new one looks like an indiana jones movie poster which is not exactly my idea of "western". Whatever, I'm still getting this on CD and hope for a vinyl release soon.

Well, that's something I've been totally missing. Could you provide some names, please?

The new Wayfarer has been my go-to poster child and is probably my favorite bm album of the year. I also came across a band called Deschain that's pretty nifty.
