I agree that the classic Motörhead line-up didn't view themselves as a metal band then, but they accidentally produced metal. Their influence on metal was tremendous. The drumming in Overkill alone..

After Mikkey Dee joined them (90s) they started recording very fast songs again. Burner for one, and a couple of songs on their last album were almost thrash. Getting a metal drummer changes things. But it's not relevant for the topic at hand.
