Nah, Bosse De Nage's latest is very average. My Shroud is a clear highlight but the rest of the album is pretty meh in my opinion.

Listening to a couple of demos this morning:

Azath - Malazan inspired filthy death metal
Teleport - solid prog thrash/death

Both short and great listens.

The latest Sear Bliss is an excellent endeavor, and the brass instruments are as prevalent as ever. A highly original recording with some mesmerizing tunes to die for...

It's good, but I wouldn't go that far.

New Dragonlord is excellent! Also giving a ton of spins to new Voivod and definitely agree with the thoughts on the new Thou. I was late to getting to it but now it's probably my favorite record of the year so far.

I am really impressed with the new Aborted, Conan, and Pantheist albums. Extremely high quality on each.

I finally got around to hearing the Locust Point debut, and I have definitely enjoyed it. It has a certain, "muscular," rocking sound to it that really screams early 80s to me, and it is just a fun record all-around.

I'm listening to All My Sins - Pra Sila - Vukov Totem right now. It seems to be another nice little hidden gem of 2018. Recommended if you like fast, epic-sounding black metal.

I wish they had a different band name^

Edit - returning to this thread for a third time to promote this fucking Slugdge album from a few months back. What an absolute fucking monster of an album.

About halfway through the new Cultes des Ghoules and it seems way more engaging than the last one. I love this sort of thing, atmospheric while still having meaty power chords and a rather first-wave style of guitar playing, for lack of a better descriptor. The atmosphere doesn't rely on minor scale tremolo picking or symphonic keys. Fantastic so far, and above all... evil as shit. (Edit: the bass playing is a standout too!)

Other top picks: Satan, Voivod (needs many more listens though), Storrsson, Solstice, Ungfell, and Wytch Hazel

I need more black metal this year!

Is this streaming anywhere yet? I really wanna hear it but right now there's only one track streaming on Bandcamp.

Yeah, go to the "Cultes des Ghoules (official)" page, not the "Cultes des Ghoules" page on bandcamp. The whole thong is streaming there (must be some label shenanigans or what???).

(Thanks, Pitiless Wanderer, I'll give Imperialist a spin asap!)

Does the CDG album pick up after this first song which is a snooze fest? Listened to just song 1 before bed last night :boring:

New Azaghal is totes awesome as expected! Please don't laugh if you read my little fanboy review on Bandcamp, my own writing makes me cringe sometimes :boo:

The new Scorched record is exactly what you’d expect but even better. Cool artwork, pummeling death metal, and extraterrestrial torture.

The debut from Mourning by Morning just blew me away. Atmospheric black metal that's always ongoing and intense, this will surely grow a lot on me.

Excuse me, would you be interested in some epic folk/pagan metal? Then look no further than this release. Just found them through Myrkgravs Facebook page where he recommended them. So if this kind of music is your cup of tea, check them out!

I feel like it's a mix of Coven and Haxan. It's great but I liked Henbane and Coven a lot more because this one feels a bit rushed: it starts with a very long intro then it has a fade out/fade in and another intro, the ending of tracks 2 and 3 is pretty much the same, etc. Not as much attention in the details as their previous stuff imho. I think the structure and order of the songs could be better. Don't get me wrong, it's still great but far from perfect.

I can't get into that CdG album at all. Weird production, bizarre, almost no melody in the songs. Just very dry overall.

Sepulcher's Panoptic Horror is brilliant, Norwegian death/thrash with some punk influence and really interesting melodies. Reminds me of Obliteration if they played more of that style instead.

that album really could've been something, music is excellent,

sadly i cannot stand the clean vocals, i could let it slide if it was just now and then, but that much just doesn't work for me

I'm not questioning his value as a singer.

It's a me thing, i just can't stand the operatic vocals.

It's the same reason that makes not being able to listen to stuff like King Diamond, Judas Priest, most Power Metal and the likes.

I can barely stand Iron Maiden but Bruce's vocals don't usually get as high and when they do it's not for long, so it's tolerable.

I love operatic vocals and super cheesy power metal and this dude's voice is even too much for me.

Pretty sure Cannibal Corpse is still the most popular death metal band.

Or did you mean to ask everyone's favorite new releases?

Yeah the stuff that's popular is pretty obvious because you'll see it mentioned everywhere, so I don't really know what to say. I don't pay much attention to that stuff though, instead focusing on lesser known releases that are almost always way more interesting.

Basically all you need in death metal anymore is what 20 Buck Spin, Dark Descent, and Sentient Ruin have to offer. Just about everything those labels have released this year are worthy of a listen, but Ghastly, Tomb Mold, and Noose Rot in particular are fantastic.

There's way more good bands that aren't on any of those labels though, to be quite honest. You'd be missing out a huge amount of great music if you only followed them.

Dude, stop. I'm trying to give a starting point to someone who is admittedly a newbie. This is your third straight post about this you still haven't even tried to answer his question or be helpful in any way. This thread is for posting recommendations, not giving vague responses about elite you are by ignoring popular bands.
