Excited to see the final results. I’ll post my list in the results thread but I did have power trip as my #1.

Overall I think my list is pretty pedestrian (I could see 4 of my selections in the overall top 10) but I’m still pretty happy with it.

I think my top pick will be pretty high, as will my 4th pick. I think the rest of my picks will be just me voting for them. This was a strange year.

Sure, I'll bite for now. My top 10 of 2017:

1. Power Trip
2. The Ominous Circle
3. Extremity
4. Necrot
5. Artificial Brain
6. Bell Witch
7. Elder
8. Hellripper
9. Darkest Hour
10. Urn

Power Trip, Artificial Brain, and Bell Witch didn't make my top 10 but all of those were so good.

I'm fairly confident Power Trip will win the poll this year.

First of all, hats off to BastardHead for the excellent idea/initiative, for crunching the numbers, and for making it happen a second time. Thanks also to all the mofos that make up the MA community for biting into it and making time-poor people like myself a great way to find out what was what in metal during the last 12 months.

Last year I was able to submit my list on time, but this year due to work and festivities and being an adult, I could not do so. I felt like it was a solid year overall and the more the years go by, the more I struggle to keep up. I find it beautifully frustrating that there's such great metal out there just waiting to be discovered.
Anyway, since lots of folks are sharing their lists, I feel like doing the same, for those who might care.

1. Elder - Reflections Of A Floating World
2. Unleash The Archers - Apex
3. Akercocke - Renaissance In Extremis
4. The Ominous Circle - Appalling Ascension
5. Sutrah - Dunes
6. Suffering Hour - In Passing Ascension
7. Sepent Column - Ornuthi Thalassa
8. Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Finisterre
9. Jordablod - Upon My Cremation Pyre
10 - Sorcerer - The Crowning Of The Fire King

Honourable mentions (in no particular order)

Desolate Shrine - Deliverance From The Godless Void; Amentia - Scourge; Inferno - Gnosis Kardias; Redemptor - Arthaneum; Pyrrhon - What Passes For Survival; Craven Idol - The Shackles Of Mammon; Shaarimoth - Temple Of The Adversial Fire; Squalus - The Great Fish; Temple Of Void - Great Terror; Artificial Brain - Infrared Horizon

Yes. I'll start up the thread on December 1st. I'll include a poll this time as well to see if people want the deadline extended a week or so into January. I'm personally very against it but I had enough complaints over the last two years to at least open it up to a democratic vote.

Had another look at last year's list. Plenty of good stuff from 2017. I need to listen to The Ruins of Beverast again - that album was pretty good.

Indeed, it was a good album.

I'm just more excited and enthusiastic about the state of metal, especially extreme metal in all its forms, than I think I've ever been. Every year the scene seems to get stronger - I thought last year was great and didn't have high hopes for 2018 (in fact, I was sort of bored up until June when it picked up), but I've discovered a ton of new bands. Plus, the sheer amount of quality bands in coordination with recording/tour/release schedules means that there's always something to look forward to. \m/

I'm making my list so I don't get caught late. I was wondering... I can have the new Selbst album even if it's considered a "Compilation" right? It's previous songs from split and demos.
