It seems like these guys have announced a release date for White Horse Hill. Perhaps Dark Descent can confirm?

I think everything these guys have done has been brilliant, and the To Sol a Thane demo was no different. I really enjoyed the direction they moved in with Death's Crown, and this seems to be in that same direction away from the earlier doom sound.

Solstice never disappoints. Will buy on release date--good chance that it may be an electronic release via Bandcamp before the physical formats come out.

Sorry just saw this. The album will not be out this year. There's just a new teaser coming up on the 21st.

The album is almost finished, however, and we should have it out by the first quarter of 2018.

Good things come to those who wait. I saw their bassist at a gig last night; I should have badgered him about it.

Not much substance to that teaser, but what little was there definitely sounded gooded.

According to a recent post from the band, this should be due today? Unless Rich is fucking with us again?

From Rich's FB this morning:

Quote:
It's with not inconsiderable disappointment that our album will not be released today as we had planned.

The incompetence, disinterest and despicable attitude of the original engineer has presented us with a vast amount of problems to fix, and we are still struggling to make sense of his utter shite. As he was fired from engineering, 5 days into the recording after fucking up all the drums, and three quarters of the guitars I am close to scrapping the whole thing after facing months of dealing with his, and someone else who'll remain nameless for now and their bullshit.

I can only say that you live and learn by your mistakes, it's actually 80% finished and mixed, but there are some massive hurdles sonically to overcome still, myself and Andy will make a decision tonight where we go from here and what we are going to do. It's only by the skill and professionalism of Andy's elder brother Richard, our mix engineer, that we got this far.

If you think you're disappointed, it's not as disappointed as me. I've refrained from finger pointing and punching someone very hard, repeatedly, in the face, but there you go. There's a first time for everything. And a last.

A damn shame. My band is in a similar circle of recording/mixing hell with our album as I type this so I completely empathize with him.

Not the least bit surprised. Solstice will forever be champs at being late.

I'll assume that's a private post of his Facebook. I can't see anything, outside of advertising for a bass player on the Isen Torr page. It wouldn't be Solstice if it wasn't a delayed release.

Ah, damn. I hope Rich and co. can get everything figured out and squared away without having to scrap everything. Even still, I await this new record with bated breath.

It’s just on bandcamp, right? I might wait til the physical release but if I can get it on at work I’ll give it a play very soon. I have nothing but high hopes.

Pretty goddamned good... the riffs are first rate and the songs are epic and well constructed. I was kind of hoping I'd be more surprised, but this does sound like basically what I figured it would. But I can't fault great metal songwriting. There's a level of detail to these songs that makes me think I'll keep noticing new things as I play it. And I like how even the quieter interlude parts are really engaging and don't just feel like filler.

At a brief skim through, I'm very much looking forward to having a more thorough listen later. So far I've found myself preferring the production they used in the older White Horse Hill version they released a few years ago - a bit thicker and warmer, to my ear - but if that's the only issue I have, then I'm far from worried about my enjoyment of the album over-all.

The album sounds exactly as I hoped it would. The band have put out an insanely good record, worthy of every ounce of praise. I know it's early, but I'd go so far to say that it's almost perfect.

I haven't listened to the whole album yet and plan on waiting for a physical release to do so but what I've heard is exceptionally good.

This is really opening up more for me on subsequent listens. A lot of depth and meat to these compositions. I'm never bored and every second of music is vital and crushing.

Agreed with those singing the album's praises. I had somewhat enjoyed "New Dark Age" before but something hadn't clicked until this album. Now I'm obsessed. Incredible recordings, all of them!! Each vocalist is perfect for what they do.

I've been listening to this quite a bit. It's heavier than New Dark Age, but just as epic, keeping the English folk influences. Kearns absolutely nails his vocals. The riffs are heavy, the leads very melodic. Under Waves Lie Our Dead is probably the best track here. There's very little doom here, but it's proper epic metal.
