This is my evidence against metal fans who believe the singer is the most important part of any band.

No way in the universe can this carry on in the same vaunted tradition as the album of its name. And it's not just because of Tate's diminished vocal abilities.

This is so fucking bad it hurts, I can't imagine a single person besides Tate enjoying this crap. Unispired is the perfect word to describe it, there's absolutely no reason for this to exist.

People really still try Tate's new projects?

Guys, I think the real question we all need to be asking right now is "a guitar in church?"

"Wake Me Up" is harmless enough. Generic and safe.

"Under Control," on the other hand, sucks my left nut harder than anything else I've heard all year. Jesus Christ, this song is bad.

Well it's nice to know that Geoff Tate's definition of heavy is still reject Soundgarden riffs. Sounds like Blaze Bayley is still making the only metal trilogy worth listening to this decade.

"Wake Me Up" has the lamest main riff imaginable. It's like he sat a guitarist down, told him to play ANYTHING, and then slapped it on the record.

And everything he does sounds like that (including the last seven or eight Queensryche albums he made). No thought, no effort. Just one boring idea after another.

I don't get it. Aren't egomaniacal musicians supposed to have really high standards? Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are power-hungry lunatics, but you can't fault those classic KISS albums. Geoff Tate just has no quality filter at all.

At least he's safely quarantined behind a new band that nobody gives a fuck about.

I don't plan to listen to it from these comments but does Captain Ovenmitts still play with him?

Do you happen to know how he got that nickname? I've always been curious...

And for the record, Tate has apparently calmed down enough over the last 5 years, that he's already buried the hatchet with Toddryche, having turned up at one of their shows back in July, he apparently apologized for his actions and admitted that Todd is an amazing singer. Not that this forgives an atrocity like "Wot We Do" or "The Stranger" or that hilarious EPK, but still worth pointing out since people seem to still have a bit of a vendetta against him .

"Under Control" is offensively terrible. One of the worst cuts of new music from an established name I've heard in quite a while. I was gonna say that "Wake Me Up" isn't as bad, but Tate's just so out of tune and off key on this one that it makes the entire thing completely unlistenable.

I believe he was nicknamed "Oven Mitts" due to the manner in which he butchered DeGarmo's solos live.

I'm starting to get the impression that Geoff played Deus Ex once and decided to use that as the lyrical base for all the nu-OM albums.

It amazes me that either Tate and his carnival of songwriters have somehow managed to not improve or evolve in nearly 20 years, or Tate and his carnival of songwriters really think this dull, unmoving alt-rock is good.

In a way, you gotta admire Tate's doggone determination to suck. Most people would give up on sucking, but this guy sinks his teeth in and never stops.

Giving this an obligatory listen since it's out today. I really miss the days when Geoff Tate made music that was hilariously terrible as opposed to just boring terrible.

I gave it a spin last night. It's pretty boring. I think the whole thing is 58 minutes long. I was growing tired of listening to it and thought I was near the end...no, track six...lol. I gutted it out and put it away. The album really isn't metal at all. Mostly rock and soft rock IMO that just drags on. It's not even good soft rock/rock like his first solo album. Oh well, from what I've read, this project is over now that this album is released. Until the next Geoff Tate project...

He probably hasn't stepped into a church since 1970. I bet 80% of the churches here use electric guitars.

I was looking forward to the lyrics to "A Guitar in a Church?".. only to find out it's an instrumental. Title reminisces some Savatage imagery (Streets)

I'm noting with appreciation the presence of "The Key" (USB) on this album cover as well. Was a long shot when they started this concept in 2015.. USB keys could have disappeared in the wink of an eye, like floppy disks did.

One of these days I'm going to try and find out what the concept of the trilogy was. Interestingly, in 2013 Tate already announced it would be about virtual currencies (and other things):
http://www.metalkaoz.com/images/stories ... e_2013.mp3 (17m30s)
Virtual currencies have been much more in the spotlight this last year than they were in 2013.

This said, I haven't listened to anything from OM.. last time I listened to Tate solo was his 2002 album, and then the few diastrous pre-Todd albums.

Geoff’s supporting Angra in Europe. It’s pretty strange to see someone who used to pack arenas playing support in very small clubs (300 capacity in some cases).

I guess he's gonna touring Mindcrime (the album) in the States here soon. It's kinda nice to be able to tell exactly when Geoff Tate needs money.
