This style does, in fact, move metal closer to pure noise.

I disagree. Even if Portal's riffs are a bit unconventional, they are still totally distinguishable. This is evident when listening to live versions of their songs: the riffs are there. This is something bands like Revenge can't claim, save for a couple of slower riffs.

(Don't get me wrong, Revenge rules.)

you'd be surprised by how distinguishable Revenge are live, they got a quite different sound going on then.

i think the riffs on this album will be their best but also most strange because of the extremely clean production and i never thought i would be happy with portal and clean production but just wow i could listen to these riffs forever

i am seriously excited for this album

Got my CD in the mail today. This is some of the most insane riffing I've ever heard, even considering what Portal has done in the past. Fans of the band (especially those who are partial to Seepia) will love this one.

the liner notes are fairly obscure but it appears as though it's the same lineup minus the second guitarist.

oh my mistake, after reviewing the booklet it looks as though omenous fugue, the bass player, is omitted.

oh thank you, honestly it really doesnt matter too much because as long as they are creating amazing music whoever is in it isnt important imo, i love how they are evolving as a band though

i thought i would ask are the riffs more technical or atmospheric on this album?

it's much more of a riff-a-thon.

listening to the album now, half way through(around) and i actually think i understood some lyrics but maybe i imagined it, love it so far

just thought i would put a review here, he does however get the curators name wrong which is kinda a worry

https://killyourstereo.com/reviews/1100700/portal-ion

listened to the entire album i dont fully agree with him, for me its no Swarth but almost nothing is and i think its an amazing album i do wish they had a few slower moments though
