How have the last few Jag Panzer albums been? Haven't really dug much into the band beyond Ample Destruction, and even that's fuzzy in my mind since it was so long ago.

All their albums are solid, except for Dissident Alliance. I never liked Chris Broderick (in Jag Panzer), so my favourites are the Tafolla albums (Ample Destruction and The Fourth Judgement), which makes my very pumped about this album. The last album, with Christian Lasegue on lead guitar, was great.

Is that Harry himself on the album cover?

Ample Destruction
Jag Panzer (EP)
Casting The Stones
Thane To The Throne
Scourge of the Light
Mechanized Warfare
The Fourth Judgment
Decade of The Nail-Spiked Bat
Chain of Command/The Age of Mastery

That's the order in which I'd rank their records. Dissident Alliance is hilariously bad but the opening song "Jeffrey" wields more groove than Pantera could conjure, the rest shamefully tries to meld Iced Earth-isms with Metallica-isms and fails desperately. Harry resang some of those songs on Decade of The Nail-Spiked Bat and salvaged a few bits here and there.

I'm amped for this. The artwork is superb, makes me really wonder what the music is going to be like. I don't need them to reach back into their NWOBHM directed earliest style....a continuation of the Casting The Stones and Scourge of The Light maturely melodic yet thundering style is welcome.

Most later Jag Panzer is very agreeable and well written, if not very arresting - I never felt like they reached their potential with that proggy style, though there were usually interesting songs. The previous two albums have been quite solid - hope this one goes further.

I still think Scourge of the Light is the best Jag Panzer album since Ample Destruction so I'm looking forward to this.

I dig Casting the Stones a fair bit, but am not such a fan of Scourge of the Light. Still hopeful for this.

If they would just inject some of that old fire and fury, some real speed and heaviness, then I'd really love to hear that mixed with the proggier, more intellectual stylings of some of their recent work. A best of both worlds thing would be so great.

Not a fan of that cover art in the slightest. It's got that overly glossy digital look that so many 3rd rate power metal bands go for, no character at all.

Here's to hoping the music will be decent though.

Looks like there's a new lyric video up and it's right in line with Scourge of the Light and Casting the Stones. I'm pretty amped.

That was not bad at all. Really solid vocals, if only the guitars had more bite to them (might be youtube quality, though). The gallop is done well.

More solid stuff as usual - sounds in the vein of their last few. I can deal with that. Nicely powerful vocals and propulsive guitars.

This sounds pretty cool. Really great intro. Way better than Scourge of the Light, to my ears. It feels a bit unambitious in terms of quantity/complexity of riffs, but I'm sure there's more technical stuff elsewhere on the album.

Lyric videos are fucking stupid, though. I wish they'd just go away.

I wasn't even aware that JP were back together. The new song sounded pretty good.

The song is the mature sound of Jag Panzer I was expecting. Good old Harry! Though he sounds like RJD in a few spots here and there. But I like the familiar feel of this and their grandiose soloing and choral bits, classic Panzer. LOVE IT!

i found the 97-2011 albums all kinda boring but this seems already better than that entire era. Looking forward to the album.

For some reason the new song reminds me a lot of the Virgin Steele song Fire of Ecstasy except with a gallop. I think it's the beginning of the chorus. Anyway, solid song. Good to see they're back.

I have to say, though, I do wish I liked the cover art more. I know it's the music that matters more, and JP rarely fails to deliver.

It has very much a feel of a cover of a very old battle hymn or something. It may be about an interesting topic, but musically it didn't do anything for me.

That was pretty cool, to be honest. Jag Panzer have always done well with folk covers (see: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald) and I think this is a nice little thing to include. Still excited for the rest of the album.

Oh it is a cover, no wonder it sounded like one... All Youtube titles of cover songs, and everywhere else too, should always mention that they're covers.

Some new songs;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQPCou8DXl4
A tad too melodic from what I expect from Panzer.

"Born Of The Flame" though is business-as-usual good;

The good songs are really good, but there are a few really lame ballads too. Actually, I felt like it had a lot more focus on melodic stuff than driving heavy metal, but I really dislike ballads to begin with, so it could just me being super biased.

I had a promo of this a while ago for review purposes. I'm not familiar with every Jag Panzer album, but this one was cool enough. I was glad that Joey Tafolla is back.
