After 8 years, Naglfar is finally releasing new music. No audio is available yet.

Spoiler: show
Image

01. Cerecloth
02. Horns
03. Like Poison For The Soul
04. Vortex Of Negativity
05. Cry Of The Serafim
06. The Dagger In Creation
07. A Sanguine Tide Unleashed
08. Necronaut
09. Last Breath Of Yggdrasil

I haven't really listened to them much since Jens Ryden left the band. Diabolical is one of my favourite black metal albums, but the vocals were one of my favourite parts.

Their first handful of albums were pretty nice, but Harvest was so flaccid that I skipped their last one. Maybe this will be worth a shot.

It's strange that this band's best material is with Jens Ryden, yet Thyrfing's worst (read: most boring) material is with him.

Love that artwork! Hopefully they forged a more solid album during these 8 years, always seem to have a really great song or two and rest being pretty forgettable

Holy crap! A lot of bands coming back from the dead recently. On the list!

I'll check it out, after all, this band is where I got my namesake from all those years ago.

This is cool. However I don't remember liking anything after Diabolical. I guess I'll give their later stuff a listen once again.

Have had a soft spot for Naglfar since Vittra, funnily enough they’re one of the first black metal bands I got into back in the 90’s. Used to chat with Marcus Norman back when he was just in Bewitched and had his solo project Ancient Wisdom which he used to send me advanced tracks of through ICQ. Boy that feels like a lifetime ago.

'Téras' was totally uninteresting for me but 'Harvest' has some great moments, I would like if they bring back some melodies and atmosphere from its early days. I think the song 'Harvest' from the that album was fine example of that the band can still make great melodies.

Damn I am really excited about this, today I have been re visiting Vittra and Diabolical, would be so good if they returned to the early sound a bit. Although it's unlikely.

A videoclip was uploaded a couple days ago for the title song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HwLeofAMss

This shit sounds stale and generic. I don't how many times I've heard those riffs before. Sounds like Dark funeral 2.0. Not sure what the dude who called it a "masterpiece" in the comments was smoking.

Sounds fine to me, pretty much what I expected. Also don't see how it sounds like Dark Funeral, it just sounds like Naglfar to me. Definitely not as intensely catchy as Diabolical but it does feel a little more memorable and inspired than what they were doing on Teras, so I'll take it. Hopefully the album will have some strong melodies as well, which was my main problem with that album.

Head bobbing black metal, I like it!

I don't mind it! Still wish Jens was shrieking on this though.

Another track released today:

Decent song I guess but the drum production totally ruins it for me. The kick isn't far off from sounding like a really wet wank.

Loved these guys for years, and I'm getting plague vibes from the cover art which is so fitting. I remember people years ago dismissing them as "norsecore" or whatever, and I just didn't get it. I could understand when they called Marduk and Dark Funeral this (and I love both of those bands), but with Naglfar they've always had superb melodies and a really sinister vocal approach. I'm always hooked through every album and hope this does the same.

This is my only cause for concern. With his vocals, I could always close my eyes and actually see a leering demon dramatically snarling in the face of tormented souls chained up in hell. They were that theatrically effective in a scene saturated with demoniac warblers. I won't complain too much if we just get some standard Darkthroney rasping, as the music will still hopefully be awesome as always. But the vocalist has a big job to fill.

This one's a tad better than the previous snooze fest of recycled riffs. Ok, now I'm curious, I'm giving their later discography a shot.

These 2 tracks indicates a much better album then Teras IMO, getting more stoked for this!

It's a great album, I enjoyed every minute of it.
The first two singles lowered my expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I've never given this band much of a listen, but after this description I'll definitely listen to something from the Jens era.

Yeah, I highly HIGHLY suggest the track 12th Rising from the Diabolical record for a nice taste.

Agreed that the singles were the lowest points from the album, the rest is amazing. Some cool solos in there as well

Pretty great album. Will need some more listens to fully digest and pick up the subtle nuances but upon first listen it's easily a significant step up from Teras. "A Sanguine Tide Unleashed" is such a killer track.
