I need that Archaic Torse reissue! Thanks for the headsup - had no idea it was getting a reissue. I think I'll get the Sacrilege BC records too.

You're going to enjoy it. I ordered it a couple weeks ago and it arrived last week. It gave me Assorted Heap vibes (the first album, at least). Very solid record, though I have to admit that Sacrilege B.C,'s debut was even better in the package of CDs I got.

The two albums from Vulture (Netherlands) were recently reissued on Metal Warrior records. Never heard them before, but deciding if I should spend the crazy amount of money it will take to get them to Canada :(

Edit: Ended up ordering them :D

I've ordered them, too. I haven't received them in the mail yet, but I did receive a shipping notification not long ago, so they should be here soon.

Why does shipping to Canada have to be so expensive? It makes me not want to buy a lot of stuff I otherwise possibly would.

It is what it is. Like it wasn’t enough already, our very own Canada Post is one of the laziest and incompetent post services in the world. I have stated this numerous times here before.

Hello, anyone else has the back covers of these reissues not perfectly flat like they were not inserted correctly in the cases?

You could have an idea of how it looks like with this other reissue: https://www.discogs.com/fr/release/25509397-Paradox-Mystery-Demo-87-Deluxe-Edition/image/SW1hZ2U6ODc5OTIwMDg=

These came out digitally earlier in the year. The bonus material on a couple of them is beyond ridiculous and so half-assed. I really thought when Funeral signed with Season of Mist they'd finally get some comprehensive reissues filled with rarities for these old albums. But it seems like all the label wanted to do was throw on a song or two on each one and call it a day.

I'll start with the positives; In Fields of Pestilent Grief has a good bonus track: "When Ruin Beckons", which was recorded in 1999 during the same session as a bunch of songs from the album. It's never been officially released other than a super rare CDR demo and fits right in with the rest of the material, so it's the perfect bonus track for the album. I also actually like the new cover art - the original was never great to begin with.
Spoiler: show

Now to the complaints. Tragedies oddly includes a live song from 1995 (taken from the Tristesse vinyl edition from several years ago) and an unreleased song called "From Beyond the Endless Black Sea". The problem with the live track is what's the point of releasing one live song when the vinyl edition released the entire live show (and featured several unreleased songs from that time period)? Even worse is the inclusion of the song From Beyond the Endless Black Sea. At first I thought it was a rare demo from the 1994/1995 era, but was shocked to hear it features Frode on vocals - so it obviously was recorded much later in the 2000s. The song is an acoustic "unplugged" type of song and almost has a happy vibe to it that sounds nothing like anything else on Tragedies. It's a pretty lousy song and should have stayed unreleased, or at least used as a bonus for a reissue of an album Frode sang on where maybe it would have fit better. Here it is if anybody is interested in taking a listen:
Spoiler: show

There's so much bonus material that could have been on the Tragedies reissue, such as the fantastic Beyond All Sunsets demo songs and the entire 1995 live show. Anders Eek even posted a photo of a rare 1994 rehearsal tape on Facebook last year with instrumental early versions of Demise and Under Ebony Shades. He said they were digging up rarities for the upcoming deluxe edition of Tragedies, so there could have been much more they unearthed. But of course, none of this stuff was included. Will a proper deluxe edition surface later with all this stuff? Maybe, but I don't think so. At least not anytime soon.

To Mourn Is a Virtue is equally frustrating. It's already an odd compilation type release featuring 3 different vocalists singing on songs recorded in 1996, but the vocals were recorded in three sessions from 1997 to 2004 - four with Frode, four with Øystein Rustad, and one with Sarah Eick. But every fan of early Funeral has been begging and begging for a complete reissue of the 1997 demo with Sarah Eick on vocals. Instead of releasing those five songs on this, they included just one more of them as a bonus track. I supposed it's all that would fit on the CD, but after all these years of waiting it's baffling to me that the band can't seem to figure out how to give the fans what they've been asking decades for.

I guess people who don't have these albums will be happy they're available again and in print, but I'm sure any Funeral fan who has been waiting for reissues to come out for the chance at some rarities to finally be released will have to keep on waiting.

Was Trisstesse relatively recently reissued on CD? Because I'm honestly surprised it's not included in this wave of reissues, since Tragedies is in there. When I first heard about Funeral in the early 2000s, Trisstesse and Tragedies were pretty much always talked about as a pair of releases that were almost tied to each other. And the first reissue I'm aware of, that I acquired long ago, was a 2 CD with Tragedies on disc 1 and Trisstesse on disc 2.

Nope, and I have no idea why Season of Mist isn't doing a reissue of Tristesse too. I'm not sure if another group of reissues is coming later, but I have a real hard time not thinking this initial run just seems very half-assed.

Yeah, that Firebox Records 2CD reissue in 2006 with Tragedies and Tristesse was fantastic. I especially liked it because it included the 3 rare bonus tracks from the Beyond All Sunsets demo - and since 2 songs on Tragedies were taken from the Beyond Sunsets demo, you essentially get the entire 5 song demo on that reissue.

No it wasn't and it won't be reissued by SOM at least. I asked them about it and they replied that they don't have the rights to "Tragedies/Tristesse". Confusing answer, as they were able to reissue Tragedies as a stand-alone release, but that's what they said.

On the subject of Opeth reissues, specifically CDs, does anyone know if the 2016 Candlelight/Spinefarm reissues, which seem to be reissues of the same Candlelight versions going back to the year 2000, have any remastering done to them? For that matter have those first three Opeth albums ever been remastered for CD reissue? If I'm reading discogs right, the only time they've been remastered was for the Japanese version of the Candlelight Years 3CD pack -- which of course is the one I bought years ago after stupidly selling or trading my originals. The 3CD thing doesn't sound great, but has no info about who did the remastering (or, frankly, if any was even done, but to be fair nothing is in English; there may have been a sticker that said they'd been remastered).

Here's the 2016 Orchid: https://www.discogs.com/release/9564477-Opeth-Orchid

And the Candlelight Years for Japan: https://www.discogs.com/release/1395540 ... ight-Years
