Okay, not really, but sometimes we're left with only this option. Can't spend all our time lying in wait on ebay, bags of money at the ready.

I wanted a thread separate from the extant "2014 releases you're looking forward to" thread, as I know we're a finicky bunch and will inevitably devote much time to comparing reissues with original presses, i.e.: sound quality, presentation, overall importance, etc. We're only a little over a week into the year and already I'm seeing news of reissues that I don't want to lose track of.

Emperor - As the Shadows Rise - March 13
http://www.hammerheart.com/
Quote:
Hammerheart Records releases Emperor - "As The Shadows Rise" MLP + CD-single on March 3rd 2014, in time for their reunion shows! Originally released as a 7" in 1994 this recording features 3 classic, vintage Emperor tracks, that are similar to their legendary MLP. This time as a mighty 12" with an etching on the side B and the songs as CD in one great package. Limited to 666 copies!

Hades - Alone Walkyng - March 13
http://www.hammerheart.com/
Quote:
On this same day we will release Hades - "Alone Walkyng" on vinyl format too. This releases features their classic demo from 1993 on side A with side B is etched, limited to 500 copies. The perfect match of Norwerhian Black Metal with a pinch of Bathory, recorded at Grieghallen (Burzum, Emperor, Mayhem)...

Demilich - Nespithe - January 17
http://www.svartrecords.com/shoppe/en/h ... s-2cd.html

Quote:
20th Adversary of Emptiness contains everything Demilich have ever recorded, starting from Regurgitation of Blood demo (1991) and rounding things off with three songs the band recorded during their brief comeback in 2006. The only Demilich full lenght album Nespithe has been reissued several times over the years in various guises, but always using the inferior 16-bit CD masters and sometimes brickwalled beyond recognition. For this release we dug up the original unmastered 24 bit studio tapes for Nespithe and best possible sources for the demo material, and then had Sami Jämsén of Studio Perkele thoroughly clean everything up and create new masters. This is Demilich as you've never heard it before.

The double CD package features new artwork by original Nespithe cover artist Turkka Rantanen, and the classic cover is included as well. The set comes with a 40 page booklet with lyrics, song commentary, new Demilich-themed art by David Mikkelsen and Johnny Maddox plus a lengthy Q&A session between Olivier 'Zoltar' Badin and Antti Boman.

Alternately, a vinyl box set of it:
http://www.svartrecords.com/shoppe/en/h ... p-box.html
Quote:
The box is available in three editions:
1. transparent blood red (150 copies)
2. slimy green (350 copies)
3. black (500 copies)

All boxes feature three LPs, the 1st of which is Nespithe in a separate jacket. Platters 2 and 3 have both the 2006 recordings and all of the group's demos, wrapped in a gatefold jacket. There's also a sticker, poster and a 44 page Demilich 'zine, all housed in a sturdy box set.

20th Adversary of Emptiness contains everything Demilich have ever recorded, starting from Regurgitation of Blood demo (1991) and rounding things off with three songs the band recorded during their brief comeback in 2006. Nespithe LP is wrapped in the original Turkka Rantanen cover art, lovingly restored, and a new artwork by Mr Rantanen adorns the box itself. For the demo compilation cover the band commissioned new art from renowned underground artists David Mikkelsen and Johnny Maddox, inspired by Demilich lyricals. Mikkelsen's art also comes as a poster in the package.

The whopping 44 page Demilich 'zine features a long Q&A session between Olivier 'Zoltar' Badin and Antti Boman plus lyrics, song commentary and a plethora of assorted interviews and reviews spanning two decades.

Here's a track from it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT76I8R9RBw#t=1

Deathevokation - The Chalice of Ages - January 10
Adramelech - Psychostasia - March 1
(both on Xtreem), no individual entries yet.

Of course there's also the looming specter of Death's Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy, but all E. Greif's Facebook says is that they "will follow." (in comments)

I think the Adramelech reissue has the same content as the 2003 from Blackend, with EPs and stuff.

From that list I'd say you're missing the Century Media reissues, namely Thanatos' last couple of albums and Dawn's entire discography.

Ah, I knew there was a big one I was forgetting. I also should add that this won't be an updated OP -- it was by no means comprehensive, and any additions will just follow in future posts.

Such as this one:

http://www.centurymedia.com/newsdetaile ... dCompany=2

Quote:
Century Media Records has signed a worldwide deal to license the entire discography of Sweden's DAWN! Formed in 1990, DAWN quickly evolved from the pure death metal found on their first demos into a more complex, melodic, epic and atmospheric style that culminated in the masterpiece, Slaughtersun - Crown Of The Triarchy (1998). Along with DISSECTION, UNANIMATED and EUCHARIST, DAWN is considered to be one of the most underrated acts that merged death and black metal during the mid 90's.

In the first half of 2014, the band's catalog will finally be made available again on CD and--for the first time ever--on vinyl. Carefully re-mastered by Dan Swanö, these re-issues feature re-worked artwork and more (all done in full cooperation with the band). The planned DAWN releases are:
--Demos 1991-1993 (title TBA) on CD/LP
--Nær Sólen Gar Niþer For Evogher (originally released in 1994) on CD/LP
--Sorgh På Svarte Vingar Fløgh (originally released in 1996) on MCD/MLP
--Slaughtersun - Crown Of The Triarchy (originally released in 1998) on CD/2LP

Thanatos - Undead. Unholy. Divine.
Thanatos - Justified Genocide

No sign yet of the Thanatos in the U.S. iteration of CMDistro.

Oh yeah, the other one I forgot about, posted in that 2014 thread.

http://centurymedia.com/newsdetailed.as ... dCompany=3
Quote:
Century Media is proud to announce the license of the entire catalogue of France's biggest death metal band ever: MASSACRA!

"After so many years, we finally agreed to re-release our old material, our first demos and our albums including some bonus and exclusive stuff. To be honest, going revival is not our cup of tea at all but we must admit that the Century Media team has been so persistent and convinced us to release something official, of high quality, enhanced by some old stuff, original and personal..."
Jean-Marc Tristani, August 2013

The first of various MASSACRA releases will be the demo compilation "Day Of The Massacra", which includes all tracks of the three legendary demos "Legion Of Torture", "Final Holocaust" and "Nearer From Death". All tracks have been remastered at DMS by Ulf Horbelt who is well known for his outstanding remastering skills (Morbid, Asphyx, Grave, Necropsy and many more). Nathaniel Colas did a great in-depth interview with original MASSACRA guitarist Jean-Marc Tristani and Thomas Westphal of the infamous Necromaniac Zine (Germany) will create a killer artwork for the release. "Day Of The Massacra" will be released as standard CD Jewelcase (on midprice!) and standard LP (with 180g vinyl and inlay). The release date has been set to November 4th.

From 2013 onwards, the long sold out albums "Final Holocaust", "Enjoy The Violence", "Signs Of The Decline", "Sick" and "Humanize Human" will be made available step by step. All five albums will get the same treatment as the aforementioned demo compilation: Remastered sound, bonus material, unreleased and exclusive songs, liner notes, reworked layouts, high quality cover artworks (no cheap and blurry scans), rare photos and whatever else there is a fan of real death metal could ask for.

NOTE:
These reissues are the only versions done with full support of the band and will be the definite editions of such death metal classics so don't spend a buck on bootlegs that suck!
- See more at: http://centurymedia.com/newsdetailed.as ... C8hXZ.dpuf

Obviously Day of the Massacra came out last year. I assume updates will come at some point.

Has Dark Descent mentioned any plans for 2014? Seems they're always working on something.

I highly highly recommend Divebomb Records for the best quality reissues. Their next releases are:

Picture - Picture/Diamond Dreamer
Picture - Eternal Dark/Heavy Metal Ears
Sultan - Check & Mate
Grinder - Dead End
Addictive - Kick 'em Hard

I am really excited for both Picture and Grinder, but I'll probably end up buying all of these. Also, just in case you haven't been up to date with the label, they've also done Deathrow - Deception Ignored, Scanner - Hypertrace, Scanner - Terminal Earth, and more.

The remaster of Dark Tranquillity's Skydancer came out digitally in August, but has yet to be released physically so there's that to look forward to. I haven't yet listened to it in full, but the dry production (and dry vocals) was always the biggest problem with the original for me, so this should be good.

Happy 20th birthday, SKYDANCER!

Time flies! On August 30, 1993, our weird and wonderful debut album “Skydancer” was released. The album has been out of print and hard to obtain for a while, but to celebrate the anniversary there will be new CD, LP and digital releases with remastered sound.

More details will be announced shortly, but for now we recommend everyone to head over to our official Bandcamp page where the remastered 2013 edition of the album can be streamed or purchased at a fan-friendly price.

We are also doing Goreaphobia's Vile Beast comp on vinyl. This is with much improved sound and art.

Not much to say at this point. It will contain all their work and perhaps a brand new song. This will be the best sounding MD release yet. It will be likely a CD box set but I still haven't gotten files to determine what we will do. We'll also be doing a companion release along with The Crypt...like Timeghoul, Fulmination, etc.

As soon as I have more details, everyone else will. We are hoping to get it done by mid year.

Anyway, it's good news, and at least you're buying a proper reissue from the band. Now to await for Punishment For Decadence to have the same treatment. :nods:

^^^ hmmmm, I didn't try the Paypal option.

There's a separate page for shipping costs:
https://coroner.myshopify.com/pages/shipping-costs

For some reason I can't even find the U.S. on there but in going through the pre-checkout process I found that it's like 5 euros for me. And the U.S. dollar currently sucks so that doesn't help.

edit: yeah, I dunno. Checking out the non-Paypal way gives me a total of EU22.29. The Paypal method didn't seem to have a shipping fee. No idea why that is.

Oh man, that's even weirder! If I checkout with Paypal I get asked to pay the value of the CD, I tried it with several copies. But looking at that page... I don't really know what to say. It's funny how they say they ship worldwide but fail to present shipping costs for the US in that page...

Weird indeed...
