I was just thinking about this one today.

Dio - Stand Up and Shout

Steelheart - Rock 'n Roll (I Just Wanna)

I'm not saying they're the same or anything, but I definitely hear a similar vibe there in those main riffs.

This thread could be named "Gamma Ray stealing stuff as usual (and also other bands similiarities)

I'm sure Running Wild knew what they were doing when they recorded these drum intro:

Judas Priest - Rapid Fire

Running Wild - Straight To Hell

Did Slayer actually steal the drum intro from Heavy Load?

Heavy Load - Might For Right '82

Slayer - Epidemic '86

Funny, I always heard more similarities between Paranoid and Communication Breakdown personally.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about Paranoid's intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlC92FufXp8

...and this part of Dazed and Confused: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1HaKfkMBmk#t=1m12s

I agree with both of you guys. I for one cannot understand how anyone can consider Paranoid a metal song but not Communication Breakdown.

Soulfly's "Tribe" = Sepultura's "Breed Apart"

Anthrax's "This is Not an Exit" = Pantera's "A New Level"

Korn's "Blind" = Primus's "Too Many Puppies"

Korn's "Ball Tongue" = Morbid Angel's "Angel of Disease"

Barshasketh's Palingenesis (esp. the acoustic guitar section beginning at around 7:20) reminds me quite a bit of Crimson Glory's Lost Reflection.

That awesome riff from Lvcifyre's Sun Eater (you know the one) kinda sounds like the main riff of Watain's Black Salvation sped up.

I noticed this some time ago. But what really irks me is that rip off of the Stones' tongue logo.

I thought this was common knowledge. That's how Deep Purple wrote many songs in the 60s and 70s; they took a part from a musical piece and created a song around it. Whether it is Bombay Calling, Summertime, Foxy Lady, Fascinating Rhythm... It's the songs and sounds they created which made them great. During Stormbringer they even bought a song from a guy whom they met during the recording sessions of the album, then transformed it. They sometimes used other people's ideas and admitted it.

But there is one potential plagiarism case : the song "Rock Star" by a band named Warpig was obviously a huge inspiration for "Fireball". Unlike the aforementioned cases, it wasn't a standard or a song from another genre or era, it was a song created by peers, and a small band at that.

A Voidhanger riff that sounds very similar to a famous Darkthrone riff:

An Acrimonious riff that sounds very similar to a Watain riff:

That Acrimonious riff sounds like a stripped down version of the main riff in Malfeitor to me. But still sounds like Watain, nevertheless!

Holy cow. I just realized how similar the main riff of "Fight Or Fall" by Riot is to "Reptile" by Helloween. It's basically a sped up version with more tremolo picking.

Black Sabbath "Neon Knights" and Triumph "Too Much Thinking" (both songs are almost identical)

Holocaust "Death Or Glory" and Ostrogoth "Paris By Night" (identical main riffs)

Manilla Road "Dreams Of Eschaton" and Angel Witch "Angel Of Death" (identical main riffs)

Whoaa!! I thought I knew my Triumph, but I hadn't heard this song again since I discovered Sabbath.

A similarity of sorts that I noticed: the solo from Therion's Emerald Crown (Deggial, 2000) really sounds as if it were played by Uli Jon Roth himself. I know Roth was a huge inspiration for Therion, and there have been many Roth/Scorpions ideas lifted for other Therion songs (mentioned in this thread), but this solo doesn't sound like any particular Roth solo. It just sounds very Rothian:

The cover to the new Delain EP really looks like something from My Little Pony (don't feel like linking that)

Primus - Wynona's Big Brown Beaver

Robs song isnt exactly like "Wynonas Big Brown Beaver" but like a general parody of Primus all around.

I was jamming through some Satanic Warmaster and I suddenly noticed similarities between them and Mgla.

Listen here:

A small change in Mgla's case, but anyway, pretty similar.

The main melodies of Amon Amarth's Where Silent Gods Stand Guard and Lord Belial's Armageddon Revelation are practically identical. The riffs are different, but the chord progressions are the same.

This part of Dracula by Running Wild really reminds me of the Cheetah Men song. Who knew Rolf was such a big Action 52 fan?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZlYGN5W2Yg

On the other hand, when I first heard this part of Silverwing by Arch Enemy...

https://youtu.be/XYFWLxUHYHI?t=1m10s

i remembered this song from the game Sonic Heroes. It doesn't quite sound as similar as I remembered, but I can still hear some common elements. Though, to be fair, Sonic Heroes actually came out after the Arch Enemy album.

This post is a hybrid between a "similarities you noticed"-post and a "song ID thread"-post, because I am more than 100% sure I've heard these two exact main riffs before in something more well-known, I think from a Norwegian band but not entirely certain of that. Anyone got a clue what I could be thinking of?

That sounds vaguely like Funeral Fog (at least that's the first song that came to mind), but that's too obvious and probably not what you were thinking of.

Could be anything; that's literally one of the most generic riffs ever concieved. Pretty much everyone used that progression sooner or later somewhere.

I think House of Lords liked that short part in Savatage's "Hounds" ("Hunt you down!") and decided to make a song out of it.

Just recently picked up Love It To Death by Alice Cooper, and on the song "Ballad of Dwight Fry" I noticed they use a chord swell type thing that's similar to the mid-section of Rush's classic "By-Tor and the Snow Dog." Obviously the Cooper song came first so maybe Rush were influenced by them. But then also all that reminded me of the beginning of "Damage, Inc." by Metallica

Alice Cooper - Ballad of Dwight Fry

Rush - By Tor and the Snow Dog
