Bros, I would like to recommend Crypt Lurker to yáll. In a scene currently dominated by nameless, hopelessly generic stoner/mum-doom bands plodding out the same poor quality Into the Void/War Pigs worship it's a pleasure stumbling across a band that does nasty doom better than most. Something like Culted mixed with The Wounded Kings, I think? Here's the closer to their debut EP:

<-- That's a long ass song but you don't have to listen to the whole thing if you don't want to! Personally I think it's a cracker of a tune, quite bruising and hypnotic- I think it plods maybe a bit too much, but it's still really sick, and all the tracks are of a similarly high quality.

Anyway, tell us what you think, and if you've got a band with a similar sound or that's otherwise fucken dense and nasty, do share and discuss! :)

Good song, pretty short on riffs but a massive tone and vicious vocals make up for it I think. I certainly prefer this approach to the mountains and mountains of terribly faceless and repetitive stoner doom bands. Most bands I've heard doing this sort of thing tend to be a little short on riffs, such as Scorn or Rorcal (who put out a particularly great album this year), but I'm still pretty fond of the whole doom which wants to straight up kill you thing, and as one of those silly torture doom fans I'm in no place to bitch about riff counts. I'm.sure the novelty of the brutal tones will wear off on me soon enough and I'll be infuriated by the faceless riffs, but for now this is one of the main areas to point my doom listening towards.

I thought the riff towards the end of this tune was a pretty huge one, personally.. Interesting you mention Scorn or Rorcal, never even heard of them. To soulseek!

But... but you're the knows-everything-slow-and-heavy guy.

Yeah stuff eventually does happen, but there are extended periods of of very straight forward crawls and pissed off screams too.

Bloody hell, didn't realise Crypt Lurker had made international waves; saw them live a couple of weeks back, and they were damn crushing - the occasional candle strewn about the place definitely gives them a fun, dark stage presence, too.

I'll recommend Of Spire and Throne, and Coltsblood, both of whom were on the same bill, and likewise doom of the nasty variety.

You guys deserve them. The EP has a spot in my top 20 records of the year. Fucking crushing stuff.

This has always been more of the doom I'm interested in and what I enjoy playing. If this is on cd I'll def pick it up for my collection.

This is my first time listening to the band, good work; definitely more interesting than the hordes of predictable stoner and mum-doom bands. Would also like to second Coltsblood, have not heard their split yet, but the demo was both filthy and devastating. Good shit!

Yeah it's pretty damn good- Coltsblood stuff is rad too, a lot of very cool doom bands in general coming from Liverpool. Think Conan are from their too!

Again, if dudes want to throw out some similar bands they're more than welcome.. Always up for uglier doom. I also found these guys: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Atragon/3540355589 recently and I'll throw them in too, they are stoner doom but it's a really dragged out, drugged out take on it, their volume 1 is hella solid.

Atragon went through a phase of being the opening band at more or less every doom gig in Scotland, for about a year, so it's just as well that they're reasonably good. There's also Sunsmasher and Headless Kross from over in Glasgow, both of whom are a bit more sludgey, but have a tendency to be crushing.

I know this is shameless self promotion, but I play in a Doom band myself. Coming from a country with a minuscule metal scene, that is overshadowed by the local hardcore scene, it was really awkward playing a genre not many people listen to, even among the "metalheads". I'll post this link, just to get some feedback by people who actually listen to a lot of Doom Metal. Here we've only had positive feedback, but those who gave it are our friends as well, so I suppose a lot of the positivity is because of that. If you think it's boring because of the monotony/cheesy because of the synthesizer or whatever, I don't mind. The only thing I would like to know is what you guys think of this.

Cheers!

I liked the release, heard it a while ago and I'm revisiting it right now. I love the keys on the 2nd song but the vocals could be more powerful and a bit higher in the mix. The band has a lot of potential and I'll be interested to hear a full length for sure.

I also would like to mention Dragged Into Sunlight as a good member of the heavier doom group, their debut is intense and crushing as fuck.

I used to play drums for those guys. What Ancient_Sorrow said about opening every doom gig was pretty true, within the space of about a month we opened for Black Magician, Grand Magus, Monarch!, Saint Vitus, and then went off on tour. It was pretty good fun. Although they kicked me out in May, and haven't really done much since - they had been talking about recording an album in August, but that hasn't happened, and then the second guitarist left and they haven't replaced him... So who knows what's happening with them...

On that tour we gigged with Crypt Lurker, they were so loud they shook the entire building. Great stuff.

As for more recommendations, I'll throw Megalodoom in there: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Meg ... 3540369990 - crushingly heavy.

And the excellent Black Magician: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Bla ... 3540350827 - who are one of the best doom bands in the UK at the moment, if not the world. Brilliant live, great on record, and cool guys as well.

Woh woh woh, Black Magician are cool but nowhere near the best doom band right now, they owe too much to Cathedral and only released 1 album, let's wait a bit!

Also, The Wounded Kings just announced their new album: https://www.facebook.com/notes/candleli ... 3468312056 (they're also better than Black Magician!)

You haven't seen them live. The record's good, but live they're just something else!

Kinda like Conan, I saw them live first, and since then all their recordings have seemed a bit underwhelming...

10 minutes, long ass? LOL that's cute...

Excellent song, thanks for the recommendation Caspian, I'll definitely be checking this band out.

Goatfangs... that's not even a real song. Most of it is just letting the instruments feedback and then playing a bit and then more feedback. It's def not doom.

It's pretty common knowledge that there are a lot of very long songs out there (I'm pretty sure everyone on the board is aware of Dopesmoker, if nothing else) but 10 minutes of someone's time is a fair bit to ask, especially for a song by a band they haven't heard before. But thanks for being a condescending dickwad, goatfangs! That said, shouldn't you be in S&C trying to force another shitty mallcore band onto the archives?

That Crypt Lurker is some good shit. To contribute to this thread, I'd say Primitive Man would fit nicely in this heavier-doom subgroup. I had overlooked Scorn earlier but on listening to it now, it seems to be quite massive! Some of you may have heard this already.
