Windhand - "Diablerie"

The new album is great! Dreamy, fuzzy, melancholic. The fact that a lot of the vocal melodies are so similar, almost variations on a theme, makes it extra dreamy and even nostalgic.

Fear Factory - Powershifter

A standout track from Mechanize. The hallmarks of a typically great Fear Factory song are here: Burton C. Bell's harsh/clean vocals, the stop-start riffing of Dino and the machine-like precision and tempo.

Mechanize gets a bad rap here according to the reviews posted, but to me it's my favourite Fear Factory album. It's like they took the disappointment they got from Transgression and just made the best balls-to-the-wall album they could. Great album.

I think that Mechanize is a remarkable album! Every song on it is a hit and win for me.

Atheist - Room with a View

I've never heard Atheist before but as I'm a little bit inebriated tonight, I made some questionable decisions. One decision of which was purchasing Piece of Time (based on reputation alone). Holy shit this fuckin' rips! Questionable purchase or not, totally worth.

Savatage - Follow Me

So much emotion in this song. Everything from the vocals to the guitar work is just cool. Must be listened with complete intro and outro. Savatage talk yesterday made me dig this album out again.

Immortal - Mighty Ravendark

Ahhhhhh I missed the epic songs from this band. At the Heart of Winter vibes in this one, for sure.

Aufbruch - Blasting the Void

Not the older German RAC outfit, black/death from Italy. Pretty meaty and crushing, but groovy enough I'm not really feeling the "black".

Keep of Kalessin - The Black Uncharted

Been avoiding (or forgotten) about this album for many years now, as the debut and sophomore are incredible and underrated second tier Norwegian BM albums from the 90's (Through Times of War is actually a minor masterpiece). This is pretty great overall - aside from the almost complete departure from sound of the first two records, but this has some truly epic, powerful moments. Might have to buy a copy finally.

Holy shit, I totally forgot about that band. Thanks for the reminder, I can't believe that's from 2006. Where does the time go?

Horrendous - Obolus

The album is definitely a grower, but it's totally worth it. One of my favorite songs that this band has pinned.

Auðn - Veröld Hulin

Definitely enjoying a lot of black metal bands from Iceland. They're just too good!

Not a fan of Euro power metal, but this album is so goddamned catchy. Those vocals man.

Seasons of the Wolf - Peace on Earth

What a full and complete experience. Love the seemingly boundless variety and imagination at work. A real buffet of metal and rock sounds with tons of other shit mixed in - spacey electronic soundtrack stuff, some bluesy folk type stuff, etc.

Biomechanical - Breathing Silence

I love the madness of this song. Yeah, the production on the album could be better, but I like it anyway.

Ghost - Dance Macabre

Prequelle got old pretty fast, but still like an occasional listen. It's not always so serious with heavy rock music.

Manowar - Pleasure Slave

Not the most feminist lyrics, but its true crime is being a bad song. Don't think this will get any play time at the next womans march.

Samhain - Initium

This is fucking bad-ass rock and roll. Monster guitar tone and the kind of groovy, swampy riffs I enjoy. Looking on Amazon and I can't find it for any reasonable price though.

Old Forest - Dagian

This band has always seemed to me to fly under the radar. Maybe it's the arguably generic name? I dunno. Anyway, this album rules.

Morbid Angel - 10 More Dead

One of the few standout tracks from the widely panned "Illud…" album. I like the heavy accent on the mid-paced riff that eventually picks up pace in the middle of this track.

This is the most homosexual band on earth trying to be the most manly band on earth. Still love them!

One of my favorites.

Be'Lakor - Stone's Reach, and specifically the song, Venator

Top-tier melodic death metal. Great, catchy riffs and encapsulates everything I like about the genre. Always gets you in a working mood.

Blut aus Nord - Paien

I was having a shitty day, but listening to this on the bus on the way home lifted my spirit. That magical moment around 2:30 when we get the beautiful riffs and that soaring guitar note ringing in the background

I went back and forth on that song. I used to think that while it was indeed incredibly corny, it's main riff was the greatest riff not to appear on The Mob Rules. Listened to it a few years ago and I remember not being very fond of it. We'll see how it holds up when Kings of Metal's 30 anniversary rolls around

Gamma Ray- Armageddon

This song will always hold up.

I love that album and i've still haven't found something like it. It's like the child of Mezzanine and a Lynch movie :)

Satyricon - The Wolfpack

I remember disliking this album when it came out, but i'm changing my mind recently: the mix between those simple groovy riffs, the thick production and Satyr's vocal delivery is quite catchy and atmospheric at the same time

Kings of Metal is the most hit or miss record I've ever heard. Every strong tune is matched by something worthless. Manowar lost it when they bought into their own bullshit.
