the new Runepsell album.

hard to imagine a relatively new project could release 2 amazing albums in the span of about 12 months.
wow. this is better than the debut... and that's saying a lot

Sacred Oath - The Omen

American metal was always the best... it just had such a brashness and ruggedness to it that made everything fucking awesome. Sacred Oath were a prime example of what the 80s were about in that they weren't terribly original but just had such amazing writing that they transcended the Maiden/Mercyful Fate potpourri of their sound.

Omen - Dragon's Breath

Even fucking better. Been years since I played this and I am regretting that.

Be'lakor-Held in Hollows
Fantastic song, the riff during 1:32 is so folky and bouncy. Top notch stuff. Love these guys.

Deafheaven - Glint

Okay, I know Deafheaven is pretty polarizing so I'm excited to really dive into that conversation in a different thread, but I'm digging the new album just as much as Sunbather and New Bermuda.

Dark Quarterer - Devil Stroke

This album is really cool; it has such an ancient caveman epic quality to it. I like how this track has an iron Maiden-esque feel to it, yet the identity of the band still shines through. Can't wait to hear more material of this band.

why? oh, I see now. Well, judging by the rest of your reviews, you don't seem to understand anything about legitimate black metal, so I'm not surprised.

Rancid - Meteor of War

I have a weird emotional/nostalgic attachment to this band. The first major show I went to by myself back in high school was a Rancid one. The 2000 self-titled album is especially important to me.

Judas Iscariot - Heaven in Flames

Definitely one of the best USBM records.
Good thing I have the CD, so I can avoid the "controversial" reissues.

Carach Angren - Van der Decken's Triumph

Pretty good. I'll either buy this album ("...Phantom Ship") or the debut next.

So, how did you like that one?

NP: Brothers Grimm - Night of the Jackal

Complex early progressive metal with a shitload of riffs. I really like this.

Primal Fear- Black Sun.

Not PF's absolute finest hour, but there's some real bangers of aggressive melodic metal to be found on here; current highlights include "Lightyears from Home", Controlled" and "Mind Machine".

Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses

Back to a semi-old favourite. Would play Thick as a Brick, but my copy of the LP refuses to play in my player. It's the ONLY record that does that. Probably should adjust the needle or something.

Crimson Glory - Red Sharks

This band was so impressive back in the day. Glossy but also intense and somber, with a grace you had to appreciate. Midnight was one of those singers who should've been a fucking icon to more people than he actually ended up.

Derdian - Human Reset

Makin' my way through their discography, and I gotta say, I really, really dig them. This is some masterful Italian Euro-power metal, and I have to wonder how Rhapsody maintains their popularity post-2000 when these guys exist.

I don't remember liking their old stuff, but the new stuff actually looks sorta interesting. Maybe I'll try it.

Root - Lykorian

So good - gloomy, dark and addictive.

After Forever - Withering Time

It's too bad these guys broke up. They were one of the best bands of their kind, if not *the* best. A certain band Floor Jansen's in now seems to not be taking full advantage of this woman's talents, considering the last album they made...

Tiamat - Clouds (full)

Holy smokes! I was familiar with just two songs, but listening tho the full album was one of the most gratifying musical experiences i had lately.

The combination between the hazy guitar tone, the little arcane sounding leads and the exotic acoustic guitars turns this album into a real drugged up trip. Really compelling stuff and worthy to be called classic

Totally not metal but

Chris Stapleton - I Was Wrong

I think I've found a country artist other than Cash that I dig. Amazing passion and soul in his singing and guitar playing.

Steel Prophet - Strange Encounter

This is a favorite summertime album of mine. Fucking great classic metal and in the spirit of the best of the genre. Brilliant melodies and segues from Maiden-esque gallops to thrashy pounding as the album goes on.

The Chasm - The Conjuration

The Chasm's From the Lost Years... and Deathcult for Eternity: The Triumph are really cool efforts, but I just can't seem to get into the band's 00's outputs. Hopefully this one will change that.

Deep Purple- Flight of the Rat

Huh, so this is where that riff came from. Funny enough, I can't remember where I heard this riff first from a future band.

Somehow suitable for this rainy day.

I'm not country expert but he's not overly twangy though he definitely got that country voice. But his music seems as much soul and blues as country. Reminds me in a way of Gregg Allman singing. And its not the modern pop music with a fiddle in it style country. I picked up his debut album and its got some great songs on it. He's playing the local amphitheater this Friday and I looked at tickets but its nearly sold out and the lawn is sold out so no dice. Oh well its going to be high 90's anyway.
