Testament - Low (1994)

I've always loved this misunderstood album... I feel like the sound was way ahead of its time. The rumbling death groove on Legions (In Hiding) still floors me!

Cradle Of Filth- Heartbreak and Seance

I'm almost mad about how much I love this. This is the most I've enjoyed a CoF album since Midian.

Gearing up for their show with Bell Witch tonight. Gloomy night here in Seattle, perfect weather for some funeral doooooooom

IXION - "The Ocean" from Return

Been spinning this album frequently as of late. Nice little slab of modern atmospheric doom.

This band is just so much fun. I really enjoy the Howls of Ebb side as well, but Khthoniik Cerviiks fills a nice little niche for me: the creativity and spaciness of Voivod mixed with the added aggression of black metal.

Emoticon overload, unnecessarily putting the year along with the album name, "at work", seems right.

NP:
Fen - "III (Fear)"

Probably my favorite track from the Winter album. I think this album's solidified its spot in my top 10 for the year.

Whenever I'm in the mood for Angel Dust it's usually a week-long bender. No other sounds necessary. I have been spinning Johnny Winter - Second Winter a lot too though.

Earth and Pillars - Pillars I

The 18-minute-long first song offered some seriously impressive and emotive black metal. I look forward to seeing what the rest of this album has to offer.

Perfect amount of blues, perfect amount of rock. The dude was an underappreciated legend. Also, gotta love "Im not sure." Never heard a song with the vibe quite like that one.

NP: Brutus - Burst
I've had a few months to really gestate this album. Still as impressed now as I was on first listen. Probably my favorite 2017 album.

You might like Mithras. Check out 'On Strange Loops' if you haven't already. Heavier stuff than Alchemist but reminds me of them in a lot of ways.

Cacophony - Black Cat

Friedman/Becker are just on another level from other guitarists. The songwriting definitely leaves something to be desired but these guys are just crazy talented.

PROMETHEAN
It's a french black metal band with quite technical skills and keyboards.
Saw them live yesterday, it reminded me of old EMPEROR, with the sound and atmosphere it seemed really end 90's :)

Kendrick Lamar - Pride

Haven't played this in a few months - chalk that up to too many albums and too little time. This is one of the best albums this year. A tour de force of rage and bluesy sorrow and honest grit. Fascinating music.

Honestly it's my all time favorite Death Metal. Really sad that the new Morbid Angel album blows though.

GosT- Night Crawler, been on a synthwave binge. This songs sounds like something you would hear in an 80's dark action film.

Mannn that song transcends! The acid clavi madness literally tickles my guts. JW for me is the best of all those 60s guitar cats - even Hendrix was in awe of that dude.

Speaking of being in awe...

NP: Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked

Synonymous with "modern day masterpiece"

Adramelech - "Eyes of Alabaster"

this has become one of my favorite power/prog albums of late. Really into the bizarro, twangy guitar tone, and this song has a god-tier epic riff halfway though. Glorious, catchy, medieval metal!!

Mors Principium Est - Embers of a Dying World

I don't see why people don't seem to like this one. I mean, I haven't heard this band's earlier works, and this album only gets seriously good starting in about the middle part, but still...

Tyr - Rage of the Skullgaffer

This track is the natural consequence of having two almost Petrucci-level shredders in the same band

Blind Guardian - Traveler In Time

What Hansi does with his voice on here is crazy. Super complex, Queen-esque choirs and multiple parts. Blistering speed metal to back it up - so badass.

a little outside of my usual taste, but this is some beautiful post/prog metal from Hungary.
