Waking the Cadaver - Type A Secretor

This record is not as wretchedly bad as I remember it being. The main issues I've found with it upon a renewed listen many years later is that 1. The band occasionally stumbles upon something really good, like the opening riff of Raped, Gutted, and Pillaged or the gallop riff near the start of Connoisseurs of Death, but fail to build upon them in an interesting manner, preferring instead to bust into boring slam after boring slam, and 2. The vocalist does not shut the hell up. He's gurgling all over the music with pretty much no rest points, and while I get that that's the point, it's moot when your intent is fundamentally flawed. You need space every so often to let the listener breathe, even in brutal death metal.

Man, you try to justify liking utter crap way too much.

Beyond Twilight - For the Love of Art and the Making

A masterwork...so bizarre and oddball, but really quite strong in terms of scope and vision.

Jerusalem - Frustration

Loving the proto-metal! Started out the day before this with Darkthrone and Leaf Hound.

Falconer - Grime Vs. Grandeur

Haven't listened to this in a while, I think it holds up rather well. A lot more fun than I ever remember it being.

Gris - Les Forges

I've been expecting a few things that came out this year to be amazing (new Gorguts in particular), but Gris' latest album just came out of nowhere and has completely floored me. Amazing.

Nice, man. I'm ordering the first two Atomic Rooster albums next week. My dad raves about them. Atomic Roooster and Paranoid were the first records he bought when he was a kid.

Shrinebuilder - Shrinebuilder

Needs a sequel. More spacey moments, please.

Need to listen to the Wetton era more.

Edit: Fuckin' a, eh-- We'll Let You Know might be my new favourite song. Such a killer jam-type tune.

Aldious new album: District Zero.
Though I'm not a fan of their work, these girls sure know how to play decent power metal. I'm not a fan of power metal either, but these sexy chicks headbanging are something I couldn't resist.

Did you see that Slasher Dave's releasing a solo album? Supposedly some more of the spooky 80's movie-styled music. I already preordered it on vinyl

NP: Rahowa - Cult of the Holy War

NS themes are unfortunate but this is a solid, if overlong album.

Queued:

In the Woods... - Heart of the Ages

Never been a big fan of atmospheric black metal and I remember little about this album, but I know it has a good reputation so I may as well give it another shot.

Miles Davis - Big Fun (first listen)

In the past, whenever I've wanted to listen to mid-period Miles I've almost always opted for Bitches Brew. As a result, I've consistently overlooked this album. Time to remedy that.

Virgin Steele - The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Part I

The thread about VS at the moment reminded me I hadn't given them much of a shot. Heard this before but wasn't really paying attention.

Pagan's Mind - Caught in a Dream

Funny enough all Pagan's Mind albums I've heard so far had incredible opening tracks and this is no exception. Talking about a cannon like guitar riff-delivery here.

Are you listening to the original or the 2004 version? The 2004 version is seriously good, maybe my choice Pagan's Mind album.

OT:

Slauter Xstroyes - Winter Kill

Quality, if odd USPM. Love the bass presence.

Killer Euro-power track - just tons of fun. Driving anthemic hard rocking stuff.
