Purgatory - Sodomizing Time I found that album at a local store... it's totally obscure and sick death metal with killer vocals and a sharp guitar tone. Definitely more enjoyable than most current releases. |

Slayer - Kill Again Just now getting around to holding my own little Jeff Hanneman memorial marathon. While Hell Awaits is probably my least favorite in the "essential" Slayer catalogue, I cannot deny that this song is just marvelous. I think I'll do Seasons after this. |

NP: Weakling - Dead as Dreams Such a great album. Almost certainly the pinnacle of USBM - though that's not difficult considering quite how much torrid shite the scene has produced compared to the few gems in the mire. Queued: Run-DMC - Run-DMC I'm not as fond of this album as other classic hip-hop albums but it's a good listen nonetheless, and everyone knows 'It's Like That'. Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion I'm a bigger fan of the Morbid Tales and Emperor's Return material but TMT is still a wonderful album. |

The rating here on MA makes me cringe every time I see it. Though I disagree about USBM. In my opinion the US (and Canada) have released the best black metal over the last 15 years. Easily on par with France and Germany. NP: Njiqahdda - Ho'oponopono Another USBM band, if you can even call them black metal at this point. So unique and catchy, with the best clean vocals I've heard from the band thus far. |

Normally I'm much more into raw, hyper-aggressive black metal, but not much pure (non-melodic) bestial stuff appeals to me (though I like Blasphemy, I'm going to take Blasphemophagher over Revenge any day). The only artists apart from Weakling that really stick out to me from the US are Jute Gyte, Judas Iscariot, The Royal Arch Blaspheme, Chapel, Absu and Angelcorpse. I guess GBK and Morbosidad are cool too. Inquisition if you count them. OT: NP: Satan - Life Sentence One of the albums of the year so far, stunning comeback. Queued: Cultes des Ghoules - Henbane Haven't made my decision about this one yet. I think I like it. Society Nurse - Society Nurse Haven't really listened to this one properly but it's on Iron Lung's label so I'll probably like it. |
