NP: Coroner - Death Cult demo (first listen)

Seems solid like the full length stuff. The weak production doesn't benefit their music though.

It's a demo! Of course the production is weak.

Hi Basque, yep Celestial Season also play stoner metal in album like 'Orange' and the following album 'Chrome', 'The Lunchbox dialog'.
Early they played classic doom-death and add their stoner rock influences from the album 'Solar lovers' that is a mix of.
Also try to check finnish Disgrace of 'Superhuman Dome', they also play an old school death in the early days than transform in a stoner machine later

Thanks, man! Downloading.

Without Mercy & Forgiveness from (2000) Lord Wind - Heralds Of Fight.
Quite good and not cheesy at all.

NP: Hiatus/Subcaos split

Great d-beat crust stuff. Highly entertaining; won't change your life but it's a great listen.

Queued:

Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind

Didn't really like it on the first two listens. Giving it another go.

Dio - Dream Evil

I'm not really superstitious about Dio's death - he doesn't really matter any more right now than any other dead guy - but it's a great album.

Can't help but think Psycroptic was heavily influenced by this album.

Desultory - Asleep

The production of this album is fantastic and I really dig the vocals. The whole album Into Eternity is mindblowing, the guitarwork is remarquable. I need more listens but this shit got me sold-out. I shall review it in a near future.

NP: S.O.B. - Thrash Night EP

Classic Japanese hardcore. Can't get much better than this.

Queued:

Game Over - For Humanity

One of the best new wave thrash albums of last year. Nothing original, just a fucking great set of tunes.

Discharge - Never Again

Again, you can't go wrong with early Discharge.

Slayer - Threshold

I can't help but love the chorus of this song, I guess it has something to do with G hates us all being one of the first metal album I listened to. I would actually give the whole album a rating of + - 70%.

Dodecahedron

It feels so meh to me. It's like this band is trying to hard. They have a bizarre and creepy sound I would usually find pretty cool, but I feel like they execute the songs in a boring way.

Heavy, dirgey mainstream-metal-ish tune that rules with creepy lyrics and a catchy hook.

NP: Falconer - Chapters From a Vale Forlorn

Normally this is precisely the sort of stuff I'd hate - my taste in power metal definitely leans towards the USPM side of things and I dislike folk metal in general, but the folk elements here are minimal, the riffs are tastefully simplistic, there's nothing in the way of symphony and the songs are good.

Queued:

Death - Spiritual Healing

Death after Human never did much for me but I'm continually re-assessing that position.

Candlemass - Psalms for the Dead

I thought this was one of their best recent albums. Doesn't touch the first two of course, but it's better than 90% of what's being put out today.

Human Fortress - Border Raid in Lions March

Man, Defenders of the Crown is one of my favourite albums of all time, it's right up fucking there, among say, Invictus or The Crimson Idol. Don't know why, because on paper, Human Fortress is just another german melodic power metal band. But only on paper, because DotC turns up to be so unique. It has a certain epic atmosphere (not in the Rhapsody sense of the word, I mean nothing bad by it, I like some Rhapsody) and it's slightly nostalgic too... it's so medieval, like, really medieval, right from the first note I'm thrown in the middle of the XIII century, just like that.

I have been looking for another band that sounds like them for the last, I don't know, five years? with no luck.

What an amazing fucking album.
