Assault - Survival in the Street

This is one speed metal gem i'm totally proud to know of. The vocalist hits pretty sweet screams. It has real character in terms of production. Sometimes I think the mix got fucked up, because in the song "the fire within," sometimes it sounds like the vocalist is 20 feet away from the mic. I think One of my favorite albums I own.

Angra - Spirit of the Air

Been digging the hell out of Aqua lately, and only finally realizing after this time how great Edu is as a singer, a shame he left. And seriously Fabio Lione!? Does that guy have to infiltrate every power metal band these days?

Instant masterpiece. Sick heavy doom laden riffage, stunning chorus and short but effective solo. Trademark Alice yet sounds very fresh.

Holy mother of God! This is what AIC should be - as good a possible sans Layne. Not sacrificing their heaviness. Loving this and will surely go see them live ASAP. This mix of heavy guitars, melody, and layered vocals really gets me wet. lol

Sounds like something off Black Gives Way to Blue. It's alright but too safe and formulaic, it could do with a curveball.

Atheretic - Apocalyptic Nature Fury

This album is really crazy. You can barely breathe while you're being pummelled from all sides by a barrage of riffs and fills and whatever else they've got. Their debut sucked but this one is nice, even though it's certainly not for everyone, due to it's insanity and lack of melody whatsoever.

Rotting Christ - Aealo

Listening to their new song has made me want to listen to a lot of Rotting Christ lately. I've ggot Triarchy of the Lost Lovers in the car at the moment, too. It's like I'm rediscovering how good this band actually is. While I dislike the last track on Aealo, the rest is some great melodic black, and another highlight of their career. Great stuff.

Process Of Guilt - Faemin

Album of the year for me, an absolutely monolithic downer that smashes the new Neurosis into oblivion. OK, so that's mainly due to the tone being different as this is closer to early/mid-period Neurosis than their new and more relaxed style. But still...

Good going.

Behemoth - Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic)

Been a long time since I've played this one. I still find it hard to believe that the band Behemoth is today pumped out this kind of black metal in the early 90's. Anyway, I really can't remember too much of this one, so I'm rediscovering it as I play. It's actually better than what I remember it, which is always good. I would still prefer the death metal version of Behemoth, but I'm liking this.

I agree with you on that.

Of course, the first single released is always going to be the most accessible. I think some of the low guitars and riffs that show up indicate there will be some treasure elsewhere on the new album. I liked Black Gives Way to Blue pretty well. If the 'floor' is this song the album stands to be quite good.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one underwhelmed by the new Neurosis.

Well, this is... whimsical.

Well, this is... whimsical.

I wasn't underwhelmed, I actually like the album. It's just... you know, too calm for Neurosis. But then again my favourite period from them is 92-96 so that explains it.

Cult Of Luna - The Beyond

Continuing down the more violent path of atmospheric sludge, it seems uncanny that this was released almost ten years ago. Still one of my favourites by them, though they hardly have anything other than gold. Can't wait to see them within a month! :nods:

My mistake. It's been getting some mixed reviews, so I assumed you might've been disappointed with it.

Deathspell Omega - Drink the Devil's Blood

While it's nowhere near their current stuff, this debut album is really solid, I like it.

Undergang - Indhentet Af Doden

Oh, this band. They do nothing new in the latest revival of old-school death metal, but they do their thing so incredibly well that it's hard to pass them up. Great riffing and some killer drumming wrapped up in perfect, thick production. With everything being in Dutch, that just makes it so much cooler: no Engrish! Fantastic album.

Last saturday I asked for a Dissection song in our local pub but they only have 12 - Elisabeth Balthori (Where Dead Angels Lie MCD '96), wich I don't like much.

At The Well from (2012) Neurosis - Honor Found In Decay.
Slowly starting to click.

Diaboli - Beast of Apocalypse

This circumvents sounding like Darkthrone, and goes straight for sounding like Celtic Frost and even more so, early Sodom. It's just that primitive, or should I say, primeval? Hell, when the song fades out at the end, you can even hear the guitarist suddenly playing the first riff of "Sepulchral Voice!" "The Antichrist" is a good album.
