Rage - Supersonic Hydromatic

Perfect Man is fucking god-tier, and this is one of the greatest choruses ever written.

Psychotic Waltz - I of the Storm

I've seen the victory
and the prize that none shall keep
And the short time that the glory hides
the pain
The pain
WOOOWOAH THE PAIN THE PAIN

I seriously can't find any fault with 'A Social Grace' at all. It's got to be in my top 10 favorite albums.

Sarkom - Embraced You Shall Be

Their debut had some really good riffing, but then they decided to go for a more primitive sound on their second album and became so unbelievably dull...

Edge of Sanity - Blood of My Enemies (Manowar cover), off The Spectral Sorrows

I like this cover better than the original, and it makes me wonder what it would be like if Dan took a shot at some kind of epic heavy metal. My guess? It'd be glorious.

Before: Krisiun - Arise From Blackness

Well, this is a neat little nugget! Found this at my local store looking for something completely different. I didn't even know this existed a few hours ago. This is a compilation of Krisiun's early stuff, mostly from the Unmerciful Order EP they made in the early 90's. This is some of the muddiest, intense death metal ever. There's no time to breathe as you're pummelled from all sides with blast beats and riffs you can barely make out in the hubbub of insanity. Not the Krisiun I'm used to, most definitely, but it was an awesome listen, and it's great to have this stuff on CD.

Now: Meshuggah - Chaosphere

Intensity of a more calculated approach this time around. Chaosphere is the second-best album Meshuggah ever made, and one of my favourite albums ever. The first half of the album in particular is punishing and all the members were at their peak. It's useless for me to think Meshuggah will ever make another album like this, but I can always come back to this - which I do!

Virgin Steele - Summoning the Powers

This has to be the darkest, most eerie song the band ever came up with. David sounds full of rage and the piano section in the middle sounds haunting. As much as I love their uplifting material this just destroys the rest of the songs on the album. Definitely one my favourite VS tracks.

The Northless/Light Bearer split. I like the LB side better, though the second Northless song is pretty sweet.

PARAGON - Iron Will

New album from these guys...first song kicks off quite beautifully with Running Wild-esque guitars and a big old Paragon-style chorus. Kickass shit.

Not heavy metal at all but have you heard one of his projects called Nightingale? I sense this could be your next love affair. ;)

I'm on a big Massive Attack binge today, maybe due to the over excess of metal during the past few weeks. Currently hitting Mezzanine after having listened to Blue Lines and Protection. I might go 100th Window afterwards, eh. It's one of those days where trip-hop is the best thing in the world. :)

What the what? I'm pretty sure it's about some sort of apparition that Dave used to see when he was high.

NP: Vanden Plas - Shadow I Am

Very catchy and fluid stuff. The production of this album is incredibly thick and makes every song sound full and complete at the end. I especially dig the vocals, they're that perfect mid-range style that I love so much in progressive.
