Basically the same for me, just throw "Ocean Planet" in there too. Everything else has really bored me.

I'll still check the new one out when it comes.

Wow, I'm finally listening to From Mars to Sirius for the second time in a row, and... this is fucking amazing. This new album has officially shot up to #2 on my waiting list, behind Katatonia of course. ;)

It certainly wasn't difficult making better cover art than The Way Of All Flesh, which ended up being a great album in the end. Looking forward to hearing this album. I'll likely buy it.

http://www.facebook.com/GojiraMusic

Some awesome news just dropped here: 'The Flesh Alive' limited 2 DVD (or 1 blu ray) w/CD and poster set. It just keeps getting better. I already pre-ordered this. 17$ and free shipping for all that? Hell yes.

Too bad it doesn't ship till July... :grumble:

I'm really looking forward to this album. I too didn't like The Way of All Flesh as much as From Mars to Sirius but it was still excellent as I'm sure this new album will be too. For those who think Gojira dick about too much for their liking on their more recent stuff try Terra Ingognita, their first album. Tracks like Love, Fire is Everything and Clone are heavier than a concrete rhino and get straight to the point.

The band posted this link to the song "L'Enfant Sauvage" just now: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/135 ... t-sauvage/

I'm liking it so far. Sounds a lot like The Way of All Flesh to me.

Holy fuck that sounded awesome, it's definitely following TWoAF's footsteps but it's even better than most of the songs from that album, I love it.

That song was rather good. Maybe Gojira have finally broken their streak of suckitude.

To be honest, I'm not sure how you could think that song is good if you didn't like The Way of All Flesh. It sounds like a small, direct progression to me.

Indeed, maybe you should re-listen The Way of All Flesh, because the new song is pretty much in the same style. With, as Metal_Detector said, a little progression. Amazing song by the way, but not quite as good or interesting as, lets say, The Art of Dying or Esoteric Surgery. But hey, it's the single, so I expected a straightforward, to the point song.

This song was pretty killer, surprisingly enough. Might just pick this up when it's released.

I'll have to give this a few more listens before I get the horns-in-the-ass reaction seemingly everyone else has had so far. It's a good song, make no mistake, and their last album has some of their best work on it which this hearkens back to. This just seems like it will be even better once heard in the context of the whole album. That last sentence is a time-worn cliche, I know, but I wouldn't use it if I didn't believe there's an element of truth to it. Nevertheless, always good to have new jams from Gojira and good to see that after 4 years the anticipation for a new album is about as high for them as it's ever been.

I see what you mean. I think their albums are definitely meant to be heard in entirety, so it can be kind of hard to gauge how good this song is until we witness the grand picture around it.

Umm the song sounds OK, the second half is awesome so my expectation with this album is growing, which is great because the last album was a little bit boring, too heavy and repetitive at times. I still consider From mars to Sirius their masterpiece.

Cool stuff. I guess that's why they are one of my faves
We could turn this into a general Gojira thread....

Sorry for the off topic but... does anyone know if the band has a ship called Gojira with the band's logo on it?!?
We were entering the Pasajes port when we saw this ship inside the port and my brother even yelled at them but we're not sure if people from the band was sailing it or not.
P.S: I will have to check out their albums seeing the praise they get here.

Did the ship look like this?
Image
It's a high-speed vessel owned by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in anti-whaling campaigns. I assume it's named after the band, because the band strongly supports the organization. It has a different name now though due to copyright issues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Brigitte_Bardot

These articles came up on Google and give an idea of what the ship is used for:

Really digging this song, the production sounds great. Nice progression too. Once that riff with the pick scrape kicks in- boom!

Man, I just love those pick scrapes.

Yup, Sea Shepherd and Gojira are closely linked. As far as I know, the ship isn't actually named after the band - it's how the two got involved with each other; the band found out about the boat sharing their name, and were actually working on a deal (don't know what happened to it) to donate profits from their EP (the one meant to feature 'Blood and Sand') to the ship's maintenance.

Indeed it is good. Their best? In my opinion, possibly. Don't think it will top FMTS though. Still a fucking beastly release.

Listened to the new Gojira for the 1st time today, and I was on the fence about it for a long time; it was still engaging, but didn't seem as experimental with the sounds effects/riffs & tempo experimentations (ala Way Of All Flesh) as I was hoping from a group that had such a reputation as being experimental. Especially after a 4 year wait. But, it does step up its game further at some point in the second half, not just with the experimental stuff, but with the basic passion of their performances. It's about as unique as TWoAF was, it's just that the more off-the-beaten path stuff is more back-loaded, instead of being spread out more evenly across the entire work, but the always-reliable Gojira songwriting in the 1st half should see you through to the highlights of the album. Final verdict, still not quite as good as From Mars To Sirius (their masterpiece), but at least as good as Way Of All Flesh, which is very good indeed = )
