There are tons of Swedish Death Metal bands who never got passed a full demo. Just look for them in the advanced search.

Also, there is a local band here called Blasphemous Creation who play a traditional style of Black/Death. Deffinately worth cheking out.

Bastard Priest. Great demo of old school Swedish death metal (with a healthy infusion of crust punk).

Miasmal. These guys just put out their first demo on Detest Records (a new label specializing in demo tapes and vinyl singles) and it's killer death metal.

Besieged (Can). I can't believe these guys still haven't got their debut out (I think it will finally see the light of day in '09). But their demo is still two slabs of the best thrash produced in the last decade.

I'm really into this band thats not to far from where I live. They are called 137 and have 2 EP's out. One is free for download at thier homepage and the other you can buy. It's called FCC (Forced Controled Culture) and is really awesome. Think of Black Sabbath if they had a death metal vocalist.

137 is pretty cool, I've seen them a few times though not recently and I met their singer a couple times. Where are you from?

Yeah, Keith is a cool guy. I sent hima email just telling him that his band is awesome, and he sent me a demo of a song that nobody outside of the band had heard. It was really good! I hope they put it on thier next release.

I'm from a small redneck town called Boonville, New York.

Does it count of the band has a split out as well? Because Mirkwood from California does some pretty interesting Tolkein themed symphonic BM. The opening track has some very catchy riifs and decent drumming (even though it is a machine), while not overdoing it too much on keys. My only complaint is the vocals aren't used nearly as often as I'd like.

Solerrain from Russia.

Someone needs to give these guys a record deal. They sound just as good as Kalmah, Skyfire or Children of Bodom.

Voracious (local band from here) play brutal pounding death metal with progressive elements. Their self titled song is so fucking catchy I had it stuck in my head for months. I really can't believe they haven't been signed yet... http://www.myspace.com/voraciousdeath

I haven't heard the band, but explain why a violin is gay.

In the context of this band its FLAMING. Liberace style even.

In other bands its less so, but still predominantly used by either fiddle-dee-dee folk metal shit or angst-ridden gothic emo shit. Neither of which are very Metal. Lets just say its one step off playing a Lute dressed up like robin hood haha.

Magnetron.
Dutch thrash, furious! They'd fill the gap Hypnosia left. Very much Kreator/Dead Head orientated and sometimes really balancing on the death-thrash border.

Revocation! They have released the best technical death metal album of this year, disagree and you suck. http://www.myspace.com/revocation

What the fuck?!? Revocation are unsigned? Empire of the Obscene absolutely slays, and I just realised it's self-released. I would have never guessed - this is better produced, more original and better than most of the shitty, generic death metal on the big labels.

Hymn for the Tortured are a great band from Guam. Melodic death/black with grind and a very epic feel overall.

I'm a bit of a tech-death junkie, as a lot of people may know, and Revocation is quite good. Listening to a MySpace track now, and I'm enjoying it. I should pick this one up if I can.

Thanks to DrSharK for pointing this one out. :)

The violin basically functions as a second lead guitar in most places. But because it's a violin and not a guitar, it's gay, right?

Yeah. That makes perfect sense.

The album is finished and people have heard it (including me - I wrote one of those reviews). But no one has put out a hardcopy yet. Dichotic Records is supposed to be FINALLY releasing it next year.

I don't think Pavor is signed yet, although I think only because it's their decision. Very technical death metal with Landfermann (Bethlehem) on bass.

It's too bad Vituperation split up. Their Nothing is Sacred demo is outstanding death/thrash for a self-release.
