Like we have already said: good quality photos or scans are required.

How often do bootlegs pop up? I.E. Out of every how many cds will one be a bootleg?

I know it depends on a lot of stuff, but lets say for me, I don't buy online often and don't go for super rare stuff at all. Should I be worried about bootlegs at all then or will really easy to find cds like a megadeth or metallica be bootlegged sometimes?

Yeah man the big bands have loads of bootlegs, they get 'lost' among the myriad of legit releases.
The rare stuff is more closely scrutinised than the everyday stuff

How much do bootlegs bother you then? For expensive OOP rare shit, I would assume a lot, but what if you got one the "big band" bootlegs?

I ask because lately I've been very paranoid (for a lack of better words) about whether or not my cds are bootlegs. I bought a lot off of amazon as a younger teen and never checked the matrix codes or the IFPI, do you know if Amazon has a big bootleg scene or is that mostly ebay?

It bothers me greatly that those fuckers traders think they can get away with it :nono:
I'd say Amazon would absolutely have bootleggers operating there but their fees are higher than say Ebay or GEMM, but if you're making a huge profit from fake items that wouldn't bother you too much...

I have 2 not uncommon album here that are bootlegs

What do you mean by fees? Like posted price? Do you think it would be worth going through my cds methodically and trying to find bootlegs or should I just let it go and hope for the best?

I have one bootleg (the marduk I talked about earlier), but it is really well done and everything about it is nice, so it doesn't bother me because it is from an actual label they just didn't have the copyrights.

Selling or listing fees, you pay a percentage of the sale price as a fee to the hosting website.
Definitely go through your CDs and add them all to Discogs and check every matrix and tiny detail, I did exactly this to my collection and it's also why it takes me so long to post in the recent purchases thread :nods:

What if something I have doesn't have any information on Discogs? Put it on there and assume it's good? Or what if I have something very similar to one release, but no mould code or different matrix etc?

(Thanks a lot btw, this helps me out greatly!)

No info? add it and wait for the votes to rill in and comments too.
Similar? it depends how similar, you may come across release that have matrix and SID code variants, they are typically very similar.

These are totally different
Sony DADC 0000000001245 A0
Sonopress 4564584888888 1347

But these would be close enough to call variants
Sony DADC 0000000001245 A0
Sony DADC 0000000001794 A1

*these I just made up, they are not real

And final question. For example, I have a Darkthrone cd that matches matrix and master IFPI, but it has no mould, I've heard that this isn't uncommon. Does that make it a variant or?

It may just be very feint or in a weird place, try asking in the release history if anyone else has the same thing, chances are you won't be alone.
Get yourself a magnifying glass too, I inherited Granddad's old one, very handy!

Beware with this guy and his bootleg! 99.99 dollars! hahaha!
If you try to find Coroner albums, better buy US versions with "WK" in the matrix, RIP is orange though and others are normal cds color, re-press and bootlegs are black! Like others Noise Records, Watchtower -Control and Resistance for example!

Before complaining some stuff needs a better update you should get some better glasses. The picture you posted has a mirrored matrix and the picture of the same album on Discogs also has the mirror matrix. Your picture is 100% original as I have this one and got it from my brother who bought it in 1991 or around that time which also has the mirrored matrix.

"mirrorly reversed" [mirrorly isn't even a word in English by the way] is someone's bad idea at stating the matrix is mirrored.
Someone over at Discogs started adding it to everything a while ago.
Lots of folk can't be bothered adding decent scans or important info, or maybe they don't know what to add ie matrix info, rights societies, licensing info, distributors etc

Those are some fairly good scans up there but it's good to have the rear cover too including the flaps

I have a strange Laaz Rockit's Annihilation Principle CD copy. I bought it on eBay in the middle of 2000's.
Comparing with the original US version released on Enigma in 1989, all is in the same shape,
but only the difference is its Matrix number, 3338-5 (I know the original is 73338-2 [V]) printed on the disc.
If that is not what the matrix number, I can't doubt it as a bootleg.
Is this a bootleg?

Thanks

A bootlegged 1999 reissue worth $15?
Although the sellers are from Belarus, Latvia and Greece... 3 of the 4 have shocking feedback including that for selling fake stuff
I asked for this release to be updated, one of our guys has a copy so lets see what happens

Is that the best picture you have? where did it come from?

That is the best picture I have of the CD as of now. I purchased the copy of Death or Glory from Amazon along with RW Under Jolly Roger, the copy of UJR I got from the same seller was a bootleg the same CD listed on azintex music. So I am wondering about the copy of DOG that I have. I will try to upload a pic of the front side of the CD.

The bootleg copy of Running Wild- Death or Glory I got was purchased from an individual seller on Amazon, but luckily I got my full refund for both CD's though. The seller princess_kayla on Amazon that I bought the Running Wild CD's from also has a bunch of CD's by Coroner for sale.

I also have a copy of Running Wild- Masquerade released in 1995 made in France by MPO, but on the back of the CD the matrix info is missing the only thing listed is the following barcode 4006030026122, the same thing listed on the back tray card as the barcode. Wanting to know if this is a bootleg or not?
