Because, back when the thread was started, official band-sanctioned download links were sort of a rarity, so the thread had a lot of cool stuff. However, with the advent of things like Bandcamp, loads of bands are using it as a platform to give away free music. As you can see, the thread basically became a promo thread that hung out in the Metal Discussion forum. People who are in bands or who otherwise want to promote bands that have music available for free, official download are of course free to make threads in the promo forum. |
