Hi folks! This week's album of the week is Carcass' sophomore full-length. This is tied for my favourite Carcass album with their next one. I have adored this album for years and think this is the progenitor of many deathgrind bands since. Let me know your thoughts on this album, as well as any memories you have of it. As well, feel free to mention your favourite song! Mine is Excoriating Abdominal Emanation.

Phenomenal. The older I get, the more I'm convinced that SOS is the best Carcass album.

Simply one of the greatest death metal albums ever recorded. Calling it seminal would be an understatement.
Picking a favorite track is tough, they're all fuckin awesome but tonight it's Empathological Necroticism.

Ruptured in Purulence is always a fun one.

Fantastic album. Mind-blowing at the time. My second favorite after Necroticism.

Killer album, go back and forth if it's my favorite Carcass or not. May have to toss that on later today because of this post.

It is, without a doubt.

It's definitely one of the all time best death metal albums. I think it's tied as my favorite Carcass album with Necroticism. Both are absolutely amazing.

As for a favorite track, it's hard to say because of how incredibly consistant, brutal and just plain catchy this album is. But if I had to pick just one, I think it would have to be Ruptured in Purulence, because of the iconic drum intro, with the bass groove joining in before the guitars and vox. It's a masterclass in dirty, raw, violent deathgrind that still manages to be catchy.

had heard the odd track of SOS when i was getting into death metal but Necroticism was the first Carcass album i bought and it would get my vote over SOS just because of that.
but tracks like Reek Of Putrefaction, Exhume To Consume, Crepitating Bowel Erosion are etched into my mind. i also had a SoS longsleeve shirt that i was very proud of, with 'I Reek of putrefaction' on the back. when this came out in 89 there was nothing like it

there was something so true and bizarre and weird here that all they could do after that would be totally different, giving light, so as we see details, skeleton and everything that makes SOS so bizarre because so weird and rough, wild music experience - and then Necroticism is a clear version of this (and this doesn't means its bad of course)

that's that sort of weird thing you can't do twice

Another banger album. This album and Carcass in general helped get me into more extreme music. A very important release without a doubt. My favorite song is probably Exhume to Consume at the moment.
