Jef Jaeger and Leon Schendel started the band in Appleton, Wisconsin as Rape in late 1987 with Paul Jaeger playing bass. Bryan Jaeger replaced Paul in 1988 and the band changed their name to Apocalypse. The band relocated to Milwaukee in 1989 and added Brian DeNeffe as vocalist.
