The band was formed by Edwin and Toep under the name Skulldusk in late 1998. Both had the urge to create mid-paced, downtuned death metal in the vein of several US death metal bands. After the quick departure of an unknown bassist, Pascal took his place and the band's name was changed to Putrefied.

The band was ended quietly in 2011, but isn't ruling out getting back together in the future.
