A lot of session players on the debut album are from Omaha, Nebraska, where guitarist/vocalist Tim Moss is from originally, and where he'd been part of the music scene since the mid-'80s. He'd relocated to San Francisco in 1996 when Ritual Device split up, immediately forming this band (which is also known as The Men of Porn).
