During their demo days, the band was called Merciless. Around 1991, they changed the name to Mercyless due to the existence of the band Merciless.

Most of the band members were in a project called Day Off Sin which is experimental electro/trip rock. This project was created in 2001, as Mercyless members lost interest in death metal and wanted to explore new musical territories.
