High on Fire was formed by guitarist Matt Pike in late Summer 1998, six months after the breakup of Sleep.

The song "Devilution" appeared in the 2005 video game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland.

In 2019 High On Fire were awarded the Best Metal Performance Grammy for Electric Messiah.
