Before becoming Hemdale, the entire original lineup was active under the name Choke. They released a self-titled demo in 1993, 10 songs with pro-printed glossy fold-out covers and tapes with printed shells, but changed their name later in 1993, probably to avoid confusion with the other Ohio-based Death Metal band Choke (another band of members of Drogheda) who was also active at the same time.
