Conceived by guitarist Victor Griffin and bassist Lee Abney in 1979 under the name Overkill, they changed their name to Death Row in 1980 and were eventually joined first by Joe Hasselvander and then Bobby Liebling, and Martin Swaney replaced Abney (who returned to Tennessee).
