The band was formed in by brothers Dale and Troy Thompson. In 1981, they started the band Matrix and released four independent albums/demos using this name. Then in 1986 they landed a record deal with Pure Metal Records. They decided to change their name to Bride.

The band's later years saw them experimenting with non-metal genres.
