When Onyx changed their name to Arcanum in spring 1993 (not wanting to contest a popular hip-hop group by the same name), they were gigging aggressively. The band entered CMC Studios to record a 10-song demo to shop around in hopes of landing a record deal. Their efforts were to no avail, mainly due to the heavy metal climate changing and shifting into grunge, death metal and nu-metal territory.
