Biography

Thoresen founded Dimmu Borgir in 1993, and he is best known as their vocalist although he can also play guitars, drums, keyboards and bass as he does in many of his other projects.

He used to run Hot Records.

Trivia

The name Shagrath is taken from an orc (actually named Shagrat) in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings", in which he commands over the tower of Cirith Ungol. In 2004, Thoresen told NRK1 that "Shagrat is an orc demon (sic.) from the book "Lord of the Rings". I chose the name thirteen years ago, so it's kinda crappy that "Lord of the Rings" has become so big now. Fortunately it [the name] ...
