Biography
John began playing publicly at the age of 14, while his family was temporarily located in Ibiza, where John's father owned several nightclubs. After returning to England, John joined Streetfighter (1980). In 1981 he played in a band which featured bassist Neil Murray, who had recently left Whitesnake. In 1982 Sykes was recruited by former Uriah Heep singer John Sloman in a band called Badlands, that broke up shortly after formation. This is not the same band which was later formed by Jake E. Lee, Ray Gillen & Eric Singer.Auditioned for Guns'N'Roses in 2009.
John Sloman's Badlands also featured Neil Murray.
