Joseph "Joe" Satriani is an American instrumental rock guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and multiple Grammy Award nominee.
Although not a "metal artist" per se, he is still a well-known figure in the metal community.

Joe was inspired to start playing the guitar after he heard of the death of Jimi Hendrix at a football practice.

He's given guitar lessons to Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, and Alex Skolnick among others.

Played with Deep Purple in 1994, for the brief period before Steve Morse joined. He was actually offered the position full-time, but declined.
