Dimebag Darrell was best known as the guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan. He also performed in the southern rock band Rebel Meets Rebel.

On December 8, 2004, Abbott was murdered on stage during a Damageplan performance at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. He was shot 3 times by Nathan Gale. Two fans tried to administer CPR on Dimebag until paramedics arrived, but they failed to revive him ...


Dimebag was Vinnie Paul's brother, with whom he co-founded Pantera. Their father, Jerry Abbott, was a famous country music producer.

Around 1989, Dimebag was offered a chance to play in Megadeth, but turned down the offer when his brother, Vinnie Paul, couldn't join.

Dimebag was an Overkill fan. He was influenced by Bobby Gustafson's guitar tone on the Overkill album The Years of Decay so much ...
