- After longtime bassist Jason Newsted left Metallica and the subsequent recording of the St. Anger album, Lohner was one of a select few musicians whom the band invited to audition for the empty bassist slot. Although he did not join the band, he can be seen briefly in the documentary of the making of the album and general turmoil in the band during that period, Some Kind of Monster.
