Alice Cooper began as the stage persona of Vincent Damon Furnier and the rock band that he fronted, which formed in 1968. After recording seven studio albums, the band split up and Furnier changed his legal name to Alice Cooper and continued as a solo project.

Since conquering his own addiction to alcohol in the mid 1980s, Cooper has continued to help and counsel other rock musicians battling addiction problems who turn to him for help.

Dave Mustaine of Megadeth is among the most notable out of the people Cooper has helped. Mustaine even considers Cooper his godfather.
