Biography

Ron McGovney is best known as the original bassist in the thrash metal band Metallica (though James Hetfield tracked bass on the band's first recording, the "Hit the Lights" Metal Massacre compilation track, in late '81 - released in '82). It was in '82 that Ron joined, but he'd played in the band Leather Charm that wrote the song "Hit the Lights" in '81. Ron appeared onstage with ex-Metallica ...

Trivia

During his time in Metallica, Ron was a pick player unlike his successor, Cliff Burton, who had performed in mostly fingerstyle (as has the band's current bassist, Robert Trujillo), while Burton's replacement and Trujillo's predecessor, Jason Newsted, has used a pick as well.
