Soham is the Sanskrit for "He is I" or "I am He" and symbolized the unity of the individual soul (caged in a pale white grave) with the absolute (a radiant black universe). Every living creatures recites this mantra while breathing, thereby SO stands for the inhalation and HAM for exhalation.
