Videos were made for Run to the Hills and The Number of the Beast.
The album cover was originally made for the single "Purgatory" from the album "Killers" (1981), but Rod Smallwood considered it of such high caliber that he decided to save it for future use.
The blue background of the original artwork is due to an error in the printing process. The cover was changed to a darker, more grey-tinged background on the 1998 remaster and all subsequent pressings use this version.
According to the liner notes, Iron Maiden once faced the members of Scorpions in a soccer/football match. They tied, 1-1.
''The Prisoner'' was inspired by the 1967 TV series of the same name. The spoken intro to the track is directly lifted from an episode intro.
"22 Acacia Avenue" recycles the song "Countdown" of Adrian Smith's pre-Iron Maiden band Urchin.
A "Classic Albums" documentary has been made for "The Number of the Beast", chronicling its inception, recording process and legacy. It also includes a skit, written by and starring Bruce Dickinson, referencing the 1967 TV series "The Prisoner".
