"Wrathchild" is one of the first songs composed by Iron Maiden. It was first recorded in 1979 and included on the "Metal for Muthas" split (1980). It was planned to re-record this song for the 1980 self-titled debut album, but this idea was declined. Later, it was finished recording for the "Killers" album.
In 1999, this song was re-recorded (with the original music) with Bruce Dickinson on his return to the band as a hidden track on the "Ed Hunter" compilation. This version is better known as "Wrathchild '99".
"Murders in the Rue Morgue" is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's story of the same name.
The song "Killers" formerly had different lyrics, and this can be shown on the "Live at the Rainbow" video.
"Drifter" was composed played live during 1980 and its first version appears on the b-side of the single "Sanctuary". It was later recorded in the studio for this album.
The songs "Wrathchild", "Killers" and "Twilight Zone" were used for Bruce Dickinson's 1981 audition tape.
