Days of Purgatory #1

Songs from Iced Earth's first two albums with Matt Barlow on vocals. There are also songs from the Enter the Realm demo and from their first trip into a studio with reworked bass and drum parts. The tracks from Burnt Offerings are remastered, except for "Dante's Inferno" which is completely remixed. "Burnt Offerings" also has a different intro than the original version.

"Cast in Stone" is "Written on the Walls" from the self-titled album with new lyrics written by Matt Barlow.

Purgatory (the demonic woman on the album cover) is a character from Chaos Comics, who worked out an advertising deal with Century Media.

The album is referenced by the New York-based band Flattened Earth on its 2023 "Heavy Metal Is Serious Business" EP in that two of the previously-released songs appear in what was dubbed the "Days of Turdgatory Remaster" edition. The band had criticized Jon Schaffer for his involvement in the United States Capitol attack on January 6th, 2021 previously with its first single, "The Glorious LARP".

Track 5 on disc 1 is reworked from the first studio recordings in 1986.
Tracks 1, 2, 6 and 8 on disc 1 and track 10 on disc 2 are reworked versions of the "Enter the Realm" demo.
Tracks 9, 11, 12, and 15 on disc 1 and tracks 2 and 5 on disc 2 are reworked versions of "Iced Earth".
Tracks 3, 4, 7, 10, 13 and 14 on disc 1 and tracks 3, 7 and 8 on disc 2 are reworked versions of "Night of the Stormrider".
Tracks 1, 4, 6 and 9 on disc 2 are reworked versions of "Burnt Offerings".
